Racism in Chisinau

Hi, am of Indian origin, born and living in London.

Have been asked by my employer to work in Chisinau for two years, from January 2013.

I've heard many unpleasant things about how non-white people are treated in Eastern Europe, so naturally, I'm concerned as to how I maybe treated in Chisinau.

Would really appreciate if anyone can give me a heads-up/advice/suggestions regarding racism in Moldova in general and Chisinau in particular.

I think in Moldova will be all right (since Moldova is not a SLAVIC country).
THe problem in East Europe are the SLAVIC countries as Poland, Czech, Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia etc.

Hi [VT member 15c90],

Thanks [VT member 15c90] your feedback.

I hope my concerns are baseless and in all honesty, am really looking forward to spending two years in Moldova.

Once again, thank you.

Best Regards.

I have only visited Moldova as a tourist but it really doesn't seem to be a racist country. People there are Moldovians, Romanians, Russians, Besarabic Bulgarians, they have 2 official languages, really don't seem to be racists.

Hello man,
Come, don't worry, it's a perfect place to be. I know a huge volunteer community, and AIESEC exchange participants, who had amazing time in Moldova, fell in love with Chisinau city, and miss it much years later :). Foreigners are still rare phenomenon in Md, so they are treated with interest and respect, especially farther from capital. Check couchsurfing events, events on facebook for chisinau, Art Labyrinth, Teatru Spalatorie... you will meet a lot of interesting people and other places, travelers like you and locals speaking all languages.
Good luck and see you later!

Hi Eugen, thanks for the reply. Much appreciated.

Am really looking forward to my time in Chisinau very much and asked the question only because of some of the reports I've read or seen on tv regarding the experiences of non-whites in Eastern European countries.

Thanks for your effort in replying and suggestions.

Wondering how your experience was after 10 months there I presume? I am also of Indian origin and plan to visit Moldova for work in a few weeks time. Would be interesting to know how you feel after spending some time there?
