Can you bring your own horse to ride?
Try asking the tourist bureau at http://www.mackinacisland.org/
Write back here to let us know what you find out.
No you can not bring your own horse to ride . They have trained "donkeys" that you get stuck with , besides , there is alot more to do than just ride around the island and on a horse i think you can do the trip in a few hours. Plenty of other things to do :)
Of course you may bring your own horse. Contact the Mackinac Horsemen's Association www.mackinachorses.com or the Tourism Bureau www.mackinacisland.org and consider visiting during the shoulder season (spring and fall) rather than peak summer because stables are often full. The "donkeys" the silly man refers to are so incorrect. The horses on the Island are great for trail riding but they are not rodeo horses and should be treated kindly. For the safety of your horse, no horses are to be left unattended downtown because most tourists are unfamiliar with equine etiquette.
