From Luton to Preston

How can I go from Luton Airport to Preston?
I saw National Express busses, but it's make no sense. It's cheeper to go to London Victoria and then to Preston, because directly from Luton Airport to Preston it coasts about 38 pounds, and from London to Preston is 10 pounds with the same bus. I can't understand. If someone can share better transport I'll be very thankful.

You have two choices:

1. National Express bus, as you know. The fare structure may not make sense to you but it is as it is. There is no direct bus from Luton Airport to Preston. You have to change buses in Birmingham.

nationalexpress.com/home.asp...

2. By train. www.nationalrail.co.uk for times, details and fares. Trains are faster than long-distance buses but cost more.

I don't know much about the logistics but the Luton to Preston ride consists of two journeys a stop and change at Birmingham and then to Preston whereas the London to Preston is a single journey.

And London>Preston is a much, much more popular journey so fares are adjusted for that reason.

The Uk is not a cheap country and that fact, I'm afraid, applies to public transport just as much as to everything else.

And there is no direct rail route from Luton to Preston. Off the top of my head the quickest and least complicated way to go is take a train into London and back out again. There is one journey every hour taking 3 hours and 33 minutes on weekdays but unless you are able to book in advance it is horrifyingly expensive.

Another way, and avoiding London, would be to go by bus from Luton Airport to Watford Junction or Milton Keynes and start the train trip from there. This might take longer and probaly wouldn't cost much less.
