Shops are closed on Sundays and public holidays (25. and 26. Dec. and 1. Jan.). Also from early afternoon at the 24. Dec. and 31. Dec. on.
To find open restaurants on the evening of the 24. Dec. is not easy.
For a decent lunch at the 25. Dec. and dinner at the 31. Dec. you better reserve.

Don't plan on doing any shopping the day after Christmas. Almost everything will be close! Also, for New Year's Eve, don't plan on getting much shopping done the day before New Year's and the day after.

When are the dates that you're looking to come down and do the shopping that you posted?

If you plan to have dinner on New Year's Eve , it's a very good idea to reserve a table. Except for the fast food places the restaurants will serve a set menu only, which needs to be booked in advance.

Hey Anne
Most shops are open before and after Christmas but they will be packed. Right before the 24. and on the 24. (till noon more or less) tons of people still try to buy Christmas presents. After the 26th people try return those present because it wasn´t what they were hoping for. If you want, you can do some shopping, but you might need some extra time. Smaller shops might be closed during these days.
Restaurants are usually open, because the holidays are peak seasons for them, you like the others already recommended, reserve a table in advance if you have a special restaurant in mind.
I´m sure you will have a great time, even without too much shopping. Enjoy the holidays and have an awesome time!
