a VirtualTourist member from Newark upon Trent will give you an idea. I did a dummy run, using the random date of 12th February and came up with this:

Not nearly as dire as I had thought, although some journeys involve two changes. Please note that I just used Harwich as the departure point, as although given a choice of three Harwich stations, I don't know which one is closest to you. It may be that "Harwich International" is right at the cruise port.

Hope this helps.

Oh yes, there are private transfers but they are expensive. Also a convoluted bus route.

For public transport options use the journey planner on

Your starting station will be Harwich International which is about 10 mins walk from the cruise terminal.

It'll give you various options of both bus and train, along with timings and details of connections.

All the connections are pretty straight forward and the train connection at Manningtree is just a matter of crossing the platform - the London train will wait for the connection.

Simpler, and faster, would be to have a local taxi pick you up - have a look at www, - if you ring thedm they'll give you a set price for the run.

If you are coming from the ferry that arrives at Harwich in the morning, there is a direct train from Harwich International to Cambridge at 0750 on weekdays and Saturdays, which has a connection at Cambridge for Stansted Airport arriving at 1040am.

There is no no train connection by that route on Sundays or Holidays when it would be necessary to go via London.

If you are travelling at the weekend you could also take the train to Colchester and then take the bus from there to the airport:

buses run hourly, taking around 2 hours to make the journey.

Unless you can afford a direct private transfer, train is probably the better option on weekdays.
