Lisbon

Metro from the airport.

Can you go from the airport to the city center by tube?

Yes, though you'll probably have to change lines at Alameda, depending on where you're staying.

There is a metro stop right next to the arrival hall in Lisbon.
Do you need to stay overnight in the center, or are you going straight to Algarve from there?
If you are heading with train or bus to Algarve, then you should just take the metro to Oeiente station, which is just 2-3 stops from the airport, as this is the biggest transportation hub for trains and busses to Algarve these days.

@Claus. I will be in Lisbon on may 23 and stay one night there. I have a flight to Fare the next day. I booked a room in Lisbon.

See you soon!

Lisbon is plagued by pickpockets especially on public transport. Be careful!

So are Paris, London, Barcelona etc and I was robbed on a train in Dorking!

Depending on where your hotel is, a taxi might be worth it. When we took one from the airport to the Bairro Alto, it cost us EUR 15, and it was only that high because we got stuck in traffic. The AeroBus might also be a good choice, depending on your arrival time.

The metro is the cheapest option to get to the city centre. You can buy the Viva Viagem card in the vending machines at the airport metro station. The card is €0.50; then you can put money on it. A single ticket is €1.40.
