Lisbon

lisbon public transport

Q1. I have read that a single ticket last for 60 mins. Can you make a metro journey followed by a bus journey in this time. If so, does the final journey have to start before the 60 minutes elapses or does it have to be completed within the 60 mins.
Q2. What is the best ticket to buy to take the metro to Cais Sodre and the train to Cascais, returning to Lisbon the same day.
Many thanks in advance and much appreciation to anyone taking time to answer my query.

if you start it in the 60 minutes you are good.

It is best to check official sites whenever possible, because public transport prices and policies do change.

The Carris website in English:

carris.transporteslisboa.pt/...

has lots of information including details of fare types:

carris.transporteslisboa.pt/...

1. It is my understanding that a single ticket for the Lisbon Metro cannot then be used on the bus or tram (as opposed to the other way round) because you will probably find that the ticket is retained by the Metro machines on exit. Hopefully, other members who have visited Lisbon more recently than me will be able to clarify this.

2. I'm not 100% certain that the train from Cais do Sodre to Cascais is covered by the 24hour ticket (6 euro) because I've not tried it myself (I've used single tickets on both trips to Lisbon, except for one day riding all the trams and elevadores!). If it is, that ticket is the best option.... but not by very much.

Here's the CP website for train info in English:

http://www.cp.pt/passageiros/en/

Fares:

cp.pt/StaticFiles/Passageiro...

Otherwise, it's Metro ticket at 1.80 euro x 2, plus Cais do Sodre>Cascais ticket at 2.15 euro x 2 so the difference in fare is negligible.

Thank you. My apologies for misquoting the single Metro ticket, I had been looking at the bus/tram fare and had a brain blip.

Could you give the link to the page on the Carris site where the other info can be found in English? I did have a quick look round but couldn't find anything.

Q1 . not so I believe if using a metro ticket but I have never tried that.

Q1 and Q2 buy the 'zapping' ticket. This a pre paid ticket valid for metro, bus and also for the trains to Cascais. And you get a discount. Any metro or buys trip is deducted as €1,25 (one single metro ride is €1,40 and one bus ticket paid in cash is €1,80) the train to Cascais at €1,80 and this ticket does not expire with time.

Calculate how many trips you will make, add 50 cents for the card itself and load it with sufficient cash. NB money is not refunded if unused. You can buy this ticket at any metro station ticket machine.

You may recharge it as often as required.

Q2: Cais Sodre to Cascais by train (from Cais Sodre Train Station) is around 3 euros one way... (app. 30minutes)
