A very special question about the Hessenticket  (3 Answers)

I took a group from Heidelberg to Frankfurt on a Saturday and had to use the U-Bahn in Frankfurt. The tickets had to be bought before the trip. I looked at the different options and found a combination of the Hessenticket and VRN ticket the cheapest way to go.
VRN from Heidelberg to Weinheim, then Hessenticket to Frankfurt.
But the tickets had to be validated before we boarded the train, so I went to Weinheim, validated the Hessentickets there and the VRN tickets in Heidelberg train station.
Had I validated the Hessentickets in Heidelberg - outside the area in which they are valid - , they would have shown the day and time. Would they still be valid tickets? The conductor in the train had no idea, she wasn't sure if this combination was valid at all. But she allowed us to stay in the train.
Are there any train experts here who know a solution to this very special question?

Landmarks in town of Seidenroth  (2 Answers)

I have ancestors who emigrated to the US from the town of Seidenroth in Main Kinzig Kreis, Hessen in the 1850's. Church records from that era give a house number of where they lived. I am traveling to Seidenroth to see the town in September. Where can I get information on any landmarks that are still standing in the town of Seidenroth that date back to the 1850's and before? The names are Lotz, Zahn and Frischkorn.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Parking in Park and Ride  (5 Answers)

Dear all.. Would like to know if overnight parking is possible at park and rides? I am thinking of parking in the Kalbach P+R as I do not have an emission sticker yet, and take train to city to spend a few days at the hotel in center.

So the questions are
- is this is a secure parking? can I leave car for a couple of days there with peace of mind?
- is there a maximum time limit or so for this location?
- would you recommend a better option for parking without killing the wallet as I would be coming from Dresden
- any challenges you see by using the above option?

If proven successful, I think this can be a useful tip for others driving to frankfurt.

Frankfurt excursion suggestions - 14.10.07 through 18.10.07  (1 Answer)

Am travelling to the Frankfurter Buchmesse, and able to stay a few extra days with a colleague in the area. Have visited Germany twice, she has not. What do you think we should plan? We're late 40's American women of German heritage - I understand German and speak some. Should I rent a car (not afraid to, but is cost to much?) or train around? Considering Frankfurt - Wieskirche - Fuessen and back through Bavaria to Frankfurt for flight home to Chicago. Might sidetrip into Alsace. Also, suggestions on cheap (not fancy, I know everything is pretty clean in Germany) Zimmer Frei type accommodation - we can share rooms - appreciated. Thanks for sharing your ideas! Ruth

Biedenkopf an der Lahn  (1 Answer)

Hi, I'm planning a visit to Hesse this coming summer and wanted to find out some information on Biedenkopf (where to stay, what to do, etc.). I know it's a small town so there may not be lot to see, but my family emigrated from there in the 19th century and I was hoping to spend some time there, as well as possibly do some geneaological research.

Is anyone on this forum from Biedenkopf or live nearby? I want to know if there are inexpensive places to stay, and if there are places such as a public records office or churches where I can try to find information on my family.

Apartment in Rhine Valley

My husband and I plan a trip next September to the Rhine Valley and would like to find an apartment along the Rhine (perhaps in Rudesheim) where we can settle in for 4 or 5 days and take day trips throughout the area. We will rent a car in Frankfurt. We're looking for something under60 per day and, ideally, an apartment with a balcony on the Rhine. Any suggestions? Danke.
