Confused over Girona and Gerona

I will be taking a flight to Girona Airport with Ryanair and I am confused - Is Girona and Gerona the same place ? I want to hire a car and Gerona is coming up as Barcelona. Can anyone out there help clear up my confusion. Many thanks

Gerona = Spanish spelling
Girona = Catalan spelling (preferred by locals, as it's possible one of the most "deep Catalan" places you might find)

So, yes it's the same place, a lovely small city about 90 Km North of Barcelona (not even in Barcelona's province!)

The airport code of Girona-Costa Brava (the real name of the airport used by Ryanair and others) is GRO

Hi, two spellings-one town, if you are UK based try and type
GIRONA as pick up airport.they were great for us last year and cheaper than Ryanair contacts.
Have a great time on the wild coast (Costa Brava).
