Kosovo Polje

Safety

This Question has probably been ask a thousand times before, but : is it safe to travel to/through Kosovo at the present time. I'm planning to go to Montenegro in August and wanted to drive down to Montenegro first and then on to southern Bulgaria. Looking at my map the shortest and only viable route (without having to take a huge detour) is via Kosovo. So : is it possible to drive through Kosovo, and what would be the best route and what are the regulations ?

Regards,

George

ok so your shortest route in km should be

Entring from Kula border, pass by Jablanica village and passthe town of Peja/Pec.At peja take the route 9 for ca 60km, turn on the left, until the village Komoran.Pass the Komoran crossroad and after some 20 km turn left for E851/route 25. This route will take you to Stimlje from where you should take route 17 and drive to Ferizaj/Urosevac. Connect to regional road E65 and drive straight until the border pass Hani Elezit/Vladicin Han. Once in Macedonia continue driving straight on the E65 until skopje, ca 190 km. From Skopje you will have to choices, driving to Sofia via Kumanovo or south of Bulgaria, Varna.

The other choice is driving via Mitrovica and Prishtina. The distance is more or less the same but the road is better. This option would drive you firt to Rozaje, pass the border and enter Kosovo on E65. Bypass Zubin Potok, Mitrovica and Prishtina, all the time on E65 road.As this road would bypass territories of the northern part, inhabited by Kosovar Serbs, i would not recommend it.

If is if I recall correctly, nevertheless your route should be Border-Peja-Ferizaj-Kacanik-Border.I am sure you will find signs very helpfull and the driving easy even withput the map.

Have a safe drive.
