Hi, i need to go to ivalo from kirkenes at the end of december?.
1. Do you think the whole trip will be in the dark?
2. Is there public transport for this?
3. Can we rent a car for the trip?
4. How do we get transport for this?
I suppose it will be dark during your trip, atleast partly of it, since you'll be travelling during the kaamos period, when it's dark practically all day long, except for a couple of hours around 12 am. There is as far as I know a bus from Ivalo airport to Kirkenes. There are also several carrentals at the airport, however I'm not sure whether you can leave it in Kirkenes. At www.ivaloairportcarhire.com you'll find more information about this.
Good luck :)
I found a page telling that in the most north part of Finland (Nuorgam) the dust time is about 4 hours in 28th Dec.

I found a Finnish carrier, but I think that it's better to search from Norway if you start from Kirkenes.
I think the poster is travelling from Kirkenes to Ivalo?
This page has information and contact details for car hire firms in Kirkenes:
I have no personal experience here, but It appears to be a tour bus that goes from Kirkenes to Ivalo. However, be advised it's not cheap. Cost is advertised as EUR 365 per person.
