I read everythingh about driving to Kashab. What I cannot understand is if it's possible to rent the car in Dubai drive to Kashab and leave it there since then I will be interested in taking the cruise for 2 days in the Musandam peninsula.
I cannot find any bus that goes from Dubai to Kashab, very strange being just 187 Km. Strangly, It looks cheaper to go from Dubai to Muscat and from Muscat to kashab by ferry....no sense...
You will not be allowed to hire a car in Dubai and drop it in Khasab..............they are two different countries
We hired a taxi a few years ago- but cannot remember what the cost was
Your alternative is to contact a Tour Company (send them an email) and explain your problem. They might have some ideas

Khasab is really beautiful, and you will enjoy your cruise

The lack of regular bus service is understandable. The population of Khasab is tiny, for one thing (I think about 20,000) and it gets very few tourists. There just are 2-3 hotels, only one of which is sizeable.
When I went to Khasab earlier this year I rented the car from Avis in Dubai. I set up the rental by e-mailing them, which you can do. Ask them if it is possible to leave the car there, but I suspect the answer will be no, because I doubt they would have any way to get the car back. There is no airport in Khasab and I don't think people commonly arrive by boat, so it would be very rare for another tourist to hire the car in Khasab and drive it to Oman. You can always hire a driver with the car if you want, and then the driver can take the car back, or take a taxi as Lynne suggests. The drive from Dubai is about 2-3 hours depending on traffic, so it's not going to be a cheap taxi ride.
It would probably be easier to just hire the car in Dubai, drive to Khasab and back, and then fly to Muscat from Dubai. The drive along the coast of the peninsula to Khasab is very nice.
When I was researching my trip, it seemed that the ferry to/from Muscat was either no longer running or running very sporadically. Do you have a private boat arranged?
Actually there is a small airport at Khasab......we flew there from Muscat en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khasab...
We then made our way from Khasab back to Dubai by taxi
A Bit more about transport in Khasab

Thank you for your answer, Once in Dubai I will try to see all the options and let you know.
I will rent the car probably and the car will stay there waiting for me.
I really don't get the prices tour operator do for the Dubai Kashab transfer, something as 2000AED. CRAZY! I pay less to fly to Dubai!
Anyway I hope I can do it beacuse I am not going to spend all this money. The room at Golden Tulip is 170$\night...I'll sleep in the car...problem solved ;-)
I understand that the price is small but It seems to me clearly I am not the only one that arrive in Kashab and take the boat to see the peninsula.
I will arange everythingh from Dubai. I will ask some private taxi and car rental agencies and then I will choose what costs me less. Golden Tulip is too way expensive for me, not even a problem of money it's a principle I don't pay price like this to sleep cars are so confortable ;-)
You don't have to stay at the Golden Tulip. I didn't and Lynne didn't. See our pages on Khasab for details. Sleeping in the car doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun.
We stayed at Hotel Khasab (or Khasab Hotel) and from memory it was around $80.00 per night. There is even a pool!
Breakfast was included

Yes, I paid about $85/night for the Khasab Hotel--which was still too much given what it was, but nonetheless, a lot less than the Golden Tulip.
Apologies for my misinformation about the lack of an airport. I totally forgot that the hotel was actually very near it! That said, I don't think I actually saw a plane land or take off in the 4 days that I was there :-)
Thats OK........... there is one flight a day which comes from Muscat
Agree that Khasab Hotel was a bit overpriced, but ther was no other option, I thought it had a kind of 'shabby charm'
thanx everybody. At least I know Golden tulip is not the only option. Also 85$ is not cheap but surely better than 170 ;-) I let you know if I find something else. Flying tomorrow...
