Sai Yok Yai Falls  (9 Answers)

I'm planning to go to Kanchanaburi and I would like to do the Death Railway + Golden Buddha - Krasae Cave + Sai Yok Nai falls + Sai Yok Yai Falls (stay one night at raft house + bamboo rafting) without a tour!

Does anyone know what would be the best route to take?
- arriving Kanchanaburi, next day do the death railway + Golden Buddha - Krasae Cave + Sai Yok Nai falls + return for 1 more night in Kanchanaburi and next day go to Sai Yok Yai Falls (stay one night at raft house + bamboo rafting)
OR
- one night in Kanchanaburi next day death railway + Golden Buddha - Krasae Cave + Sai Yok Nai falls and continue to Sai Yok Yai Falls (stay one night at raft house + bamboo rafting)

Also: is there conections between the two falls? and anyone know how long does it take from Sai Yok Yai to Bangkok?

Thanks!!

What is the earliest time to get back to Bangkok from Erawan falls?  (4 Answers)

My fiancee and I would really like to give ourselves a whole day at Erawan Falls and so we decided to stay overnight at the National Park. My question, however, is how early can we get back to Bangkok the next day. Our flight leaves at 1 pm and I think the earliest bus to leave Erawan Falls is 8 am? Are there any earlier travel options from Erawan falls back to Bangkok?

Best Option going south?  (3 Answers)

Hello
Me & my boyfriend are travelling trough thailand. Right now located in Kanchanabury for a couple of days.
After this we want to travel south. First option was to take the train and hop off at the coastal cities such as Hua Hin and chumphon. After some research those places aren't much recommended as in non touristic and dirty... (anyone more infor regarding this?)
So we are thinking about skipping that and going straight down to Surat Thani to go to Ko Samui. What is the best, easyerst, fasted or cheapest way to go from kanchanaburi to Sutar Thani?
Go to bangkok or ratchaburi first? take bus? take night train?....
Any help will be very welcome! Thanks

Need help organising 2 days in Kanchanaburi - URGENT  (13 Answers)

My friend and I, both 20-something Asian females, will be spending 2 days in Kanchanaburi next week, on Thu-Fri 27th-28th Jan.
We will be starting and ending in Bangkok, and plan to take bus there and back, unless we get a tour that includes transfer both ways.
We have no problem with long days, though I'm not too physically fit.
We speak Mandarin Chinese and English, and probably the most basic Thai greetings. We know a smattering of other languages, but which would probably be of no use here!
We are students, but can afford to splurge a little, so hopefully the entire thing is between budget and mid-range prices.

Here are the sights that I'd like to visit, in order of preference:
- Thailand-Burma Railway Centre
- Hellfire Pass & Museum
- the bridge (obviously!)
- ride on Death Railway (just the most scenic/memorable part will do)
- twilight elephant experience (
- spa experience at Suan Nanachaat () --> couple of hours will do
- Erawan Falls (more for Emily's sake than mine)
- floating market
I will happily skip Erawan Falls and the floating market if time is too tight to allow it.

How should I arrange the rest of the sightseeing, in the time I have available?
I presume it would be best for me to arrange it as a package -- how much would it roughly cost? If anyone has had good tour operators that they've used before, please feel free to recommend them.

Thanks in advance for all replies! :-)

Exploring the Kanchanaburi region on the cheap !!  (6 Answers)

With 2 weeks in Thailand I have almost decided to have a week in the south and a week around BKK and Kanchanaburi. I am referrring to my ROUGH GUIDE for ideas and came across 2 places where visitors can stay and buy trips. All seems very nice but at a price. Sure it would be good to travel on the railway, wash elephants in the river, go rafting and see the inner jungle and meet "locals" but its all at a price.

I would love to do these things by myself but fear that some things cannot be seen/done as a single traveller.

If someone could look at these two websites and tell me if they are expensive and can the trips be done with a local Thai friend or by myself ?

Kanchanaburi Overnight tour  (3 Answers)

Hi all,
I would like to go to Kanchanaburi for one night and two days, and see the best it has to offer. Can anyone recommend a value for money tour? Just don't want to end up in a packed van and shuttled lifelessly from place to place.

I would consider doing the trip by public transport but given the lack of time I thought a tour might be better.

Kanchanaburi as a base - hoping to check out Erawan WITHOUT a tour operator  (1 Answer)

Hi there! I have a few major questions:

1) I am interested in taking a bus from Kanchanaburi to Erawan around 10:30AM. Then, I was hoping to get to the Namtok train station from Erawan. Then, I was planning on taking the Death Railway train on the 3:15PM train, back to Kanchanaburi. Does anyone know if there is a bus, taxi, or tuktuk from Erawan to Namtok? Also, how much will it cost and how long will it take?

2) I have been trying to find an elephant trekking company in Kan, but to no avail! Everything seems to be packaged w/ a tour operator! Is there a way to do an elephant trek a la carte? What companies will do this? Do you know how early they start?

Thanks for your help!!! :)

Kanchanaburi Resorts by the Waterfalls  (2 Answers)

Hi Guys!
We will be travelling by car to Kanchanaburi for 2 nights stay. Wondering whether there are any resorts that are right next to the waterfalls or at least have nice streams running in the resort's ground? I know there are a few by the river but I prefer streams and waterfalls to river...
Thanks!

River Kwai Train Journey  (1 Answer)

I have only a short amount of time in kanchanaburi but was wanting to do some of the journey on the train. From what i have gathered it take 2 & 1/2 hrs to get out to nam tok, so my thought was to take the train to Thakilen and then a cab to return back to kanchanaburi. Does anyone know how much a cab trip would cost and how long it takes to drive ???

Hotel Suggestions?  (1 Answer)

I am planning on being in Kanchanaburi in January, and would like to get some recommendations for a nice, well-located hotel. The ones I am considering are the Felix Riverside Kwai, the Oriental Kwai, and the River Kwai Village.

Thanks.
