My husband and I would like to take trip to Jamaica with our 2 year old son. We are more interested in experiencing Jamaican culture than partying or going to a resort. Does any one have any suggestions about where to go and what to see?
we have booked 2 weeks next oct in the legends resort all inclusive but having read a number of reviews and guide books I feel that the hotel may be poor and downmarket, the area unsafe, medical facilities poor and frannkly little to do other than lie in the sun. We are late 50s. We are seriously considering cancelling the booking and losing the deposit. I would appreciate views either way
I need some suggestions on the best excursions from Negril. We are only staying 7 days, so we only want to do 2 at the most. Which is more worth the time, Mayfield Falls or YS falls? And is the Black River Safari good? Also, which tour operators are the best?
Hi, I'm going to the Sunset Beach Resort, Montego Bay on Oct 14th and having never been to Jamaica before I wondered if anyone could advise me on the best currency to take. Are US dollars widely accepted or will we need Jamaican dollars?
It would be nice to hear from anyone going to the resort at the same time as us too.
Great website. The information has been VERY helpful. My questions at this point are around tipping and bribing-it doesn't matter WHERE I go, I seem to ALWAYS have questions like am I tipping too little, too much or just right? Your feedback would be appreciated.
My husband and my daughter and I will be staying at an all inclusive, but I have read a few times that tipping is not rejected. So my questions are: When I feel compelled to tip (I've received great service or am hoping for something above and beyond what is standard-like a room upgrade, or tipping a concierge for doing something, etc) what do you think I should tip? For example: The driver to the resort, I hear, will gladly take a tip but we should tip before we get to the resort-so how much would I tip for a smooth drive from the airport? Another one: How much to give to the front desk clerk to obtain a "free" upgrade? What about wait staff? Or is it even worth it. I don't want to be cheap, and I understand this is their livelihood, however I don't want to be ripped off either and I'm hoping tipping where appropriate will help us feel that we get that little "extra" service and nurturing we so badly need as we have been working so hard and can't believe we are going to be in Jamaica!
I am planning a non inclusive trip to Jaimaca for 4 people. I am trying to decide the best place to stay. I want to be somewhere that feels safe and is somewhat close to different beaches, sites, tours, food, etc. This is my first experience with researching Jamaica and I need HELP! I think I have airfare covered (but I will take any tips) I am more looking for location and tips on food and places to stay that are very reasonably priced. I would like to plan a trip around learning the beauty of the Jamaican culture and not the touristy things (althougth the Bob Marley museum will be on the activity list). Thank you to anyone who has advice to offer I am all ears!!
Hi members, does anyone know cheapest airline to fly with from jamaica? as i have 2 friends there that missed there flight and are stranded over there with not much money.
I am a visitor to United states on a B1/B2 visa with I-94 stamped for 6 months. I need to visit Jamaica for a period of one week next month. Do I need to surrender my I-94 at the departure point in the USA during my visit to jamaica?
Is my stay in the USA valid for 6 months after returning back from jamaica if I don't need to surrender my I-94 during my departure from the USA?
How does the procedure at the port of entry work in my case?
and how much is the entry fee, can I pay using US?

Will be travelling to Kingston in two weeks and then travelling by car to Port Antonio for a fortnight. I've been searching for updates to Hurricane Gustav damage in the parish, but have been uable to discover much other than structural damage to roads and bridges. Would anyone out there know if there is a viable route by car to Port Antonio and, if so, how long of a drive it would be?
Hello leaving to Jamaica in a couple of days...

Hello! Am looking to come to Jamaica in August.
Have 10 days and we (3 30 something ladies) are looking for any suggestions/itinaries/places to go/places to stay/places to avoid etc etc. Can you help?
Mid budget (ie not back packers or luxury). Happy to drive. Not interested in All-inclusives. Happy with going wherever locals go if it's safe.
I'm trying to find out how far it is to Clarendon, Maypen from Montego Bay and about how much a taxi may charge for a day trip. Can anyone help me?
Has anyone here ever been to Sandals Negril or Sandals Dunn's River? I LOVE Sandals Dunn's River; the atmosphere there is simply wonderful - almost indescribable. I was told that Sandals Negril or Couples Negril were probably the two resorts that have the most similar atmosphere to Sandals Dunn's River.
I was just wondering if anyone here has even been to both Couples Negril and Sandals Dunn's River so that I could see how they stacked up against one another. Any feed back that you could provide is greatly appreciated!
is it safe to drive in Jamaica? can I just uses my US driver license? do they drive on the right side or left? are the map and road sign clear?
I understand that Beaches Resort has a Single Parent month deal for May. Is anybody on this forum considering doing a trip in May to take advantage of this special deal. I have contacted them (Beaches) to find out exactly what the deal entails and will let anybody that is considering know the details.
My Wife and I are
coming to Sandals Whitehouse Resort on June 24th and statying for a week. We had been on a cruise ship previously and went to Ocho Rios and to Dunns River Falls and had a blast and loved the culture. We would love to one day while we are there to travel to the more populated area for shopping and authentic Food at a local Reastaurant along with that evening going to a Night Club for dancing. How much is it to get there by Taxi; or what is the best method for doing this as far as where we should go. We have found that dealing with the locals is alot cheaper than going through the Resorts or ship. Thanks for any information you could provide.
Im flying into kingston, can you tell me how long it takes to get from airport to the couples sans souci resort and how much will it cost me. also who is best to book with?
Hello. My name is John and I just have a couple questions that I want to throw out there. We thought we were going to have a Wedding/Honeymoon about a year from now. Thinking that Low months would be good to go.
We decided that we are probably going 4-6months from now. Jamaica; The Caves Resort. Does anybody have anything to say about that resort?
Also, we are wanting to see some kind of American or UK based Concert/Show while we are visiting. We are going to spend 5-7 nights (probably 6) so base it however you wish...
Can anybody help us out with ANY information at all. This IS our first time doing this afterall...

Will be in JA soon and was thinking about visiting Mayfield Falls with the family. Although I'm very familiar with JA, I've never been to Mayfield Falls and I get the impression it's a more strenuous visit than YS, Reach or Dunns River. My relatively healthy 69 year old mother and 2 year old son will be with us, so was wondering if the visit is still worthwhile with them coming along or if it might be too much for them to enjoy. Any opinions? Thanks.
How long a drive is it from Negril to Treasure Beach??
my friend and i intend to spend two weeks in jamaica in september. can anybody tell me if this is a good time of yr to visit, and if so where abouts we should stay? we are both female students and so dont want to blow the budget! but at the same time we are looking for somewhere with enough to do, a nice beach, and not somewhere too quiet.
I'm taking a spontaneous trip to Montego bay March 3-10, 2008. Looking for cheap hostels near the ocean (doesn't have to be directly on the beach). I'd like to find one for14 per night or less. It's just me traveling. (30 yr-old male).
Anyone have any thoughts??
