You could try Grand Cayman Island.

I'm thinking that you initially considered Jamaica because you love the tropical climate and/or culture or you were being mindful of your boyfriend's nationality. I am also Jamaican and would tell you to choose another destination due to the high cost of living, limited hospitality work opportunities, and crime. You would probably love certain countries in Central America such as Costa Rica and Panama because they have booming tourism and a huge demand for English speaking workers to help with the influx of tourists from the UK, North America, and Canada. Along the eastern coast of Central America there are many areas very similar to Jamaica in terms of the culture, music, and food. St. Maarten is also a very nice place to be but the cost of food is expensive due to the fact that everything is imported (bad soil).
