Is it safe to go to Jamaica although they have the chik-V mosquitoes there? Looking at Nov. 2014 trip.
Do what I do in the Baja and carry lots of DEET. The Off Dry Woods brand I find works the best at least for me. Plus it comes in a "dry" aerosol can or individual use wipe on "towelettes."
Hello, I was plagued by mosquitoes in Morocco this year, where the weather was unusually hot, so I can empathise with your apprehension about your trip to Jamaica. Apparently, Chikungunya has been widespread in Jamaica since April this year and some of the long-term health consequences can be serious from these insect bites, I got information on Wikipedia where you can see a picture of a sufferer's leg badly bitten....
By comparison, my leg did not seem to suffer as badly, although the itching drove me mad at times and I had to buy some sting relief cream from the local Pharmacy when my own first-aid kit supply had rapidly depleted.
For my next trip into mosquito-infested regions I've already bought a single person mosquito net, only about £20 from Amazon and will be stocking up on lots of repellent and aerosol insect spray.
you will be fine. just bring mosquito repellent with deet. P.S. chic v is like a bad cold.. you are sore and stay in bed a few days
Where did you acquire your crystal ball, I would like one of those? .....the effects of mosquito bites can affect different people in different ways, depending on their individual physical strengths or weaknesses, when I travelled India I met people whose lives had been adversely transformed by Malaria.
On an adjunct, I distinctly recall back in 1977 the World Health Organisation's declaration that Malaria had been eradicated world-wide, but the passage of time confirms that they were telling lies!
I live in Jamaica. I have had many friends of all ages that has had it. I know what it does and how to deal with it.. That is why I said as I did benny. To date NO one has dies from Chic V
