Where is the best place in Jamaica for singles to travel?
Hello and welcome to VT........d:o)
"Singles", - covers a lot of territory. Are you male, female, - 18 or 80, - party people or hikers, - backpackers or 5 star, - sightseeing or just lay on the beach, - adventurers or not, - 5 days or 5 months, - and unfortunately a logical question, - any interest in Jamaica itself, or do you just want to hang out at an A.I. and meet other singles..........well you get the picture. Not enough information..........d:o)
I note that you asked about the Riu in Negril.
The three main tourist areas are on the north coast, and they are Ocho Rios, Negril and Mo Bay (Montego Bay). Negril is the nicest, Ocho Rios is great for fishing, and Mo Bay is usually where first timers go, as there is more than just resorts, as Mo Bay has a genuine "Strip" with party traffic and clubs.
I am not a big fan of A.I.s (All Inclusives), mostly because I care more about where in the world I am, than where to party, - even when I was partying. I could never understand why people would go across oceans to be at an AI the whole time, but a lot of people do this. It's fine if that is what you like, but why not go to one close to home to save some money because they are mostly generic. A Sandals or Couples, are the same everywhere, like Club Med. Another thing about AIs most folks are not aware of, - everything they use is cheap bought-in-bulk stuff, like cheap booze.
Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to talk you out of it, - just providing some balance........d:o)
Answer some of my questions, and I can give you better advise. I don't want to elaborate on stuff, only to find out it is not what you want.
You will love mi Jamaica, so holla back.........d:o)
Agree with Odinnthor. More information is needed about your plans as single. We may think you are interested in partying and the reality can be that you a fan of nature and you are looking for places for trekking (for example).
Apart from the 3 areas mentioned by Odinnthor, I´d add as well Port Antonio, that for me is the most beautiful area in the island. (There are not A.I in that area). And Kingston, that is the place to go if you are just looking for parties, but it does not have beach nearby.
Hey, I always include Kingston if I can. As far as I am concerned, if you have not visited Kingston, you have not yet been to Jamaica. Used to live there back in the day, - the soul of Jamaica is in Kingston. I have visited often and there have been times I never left Jah Town.
I am also fond of the Oracabessa beach area where Ian Fleming's old estate is located. Named Golden Eye back in the 50s, it is where Fleming wrote most of the Bond books. It was sold to Bob Marley, who then sold it to his manager and mentor, Chris Blackwell, owner of Island records. He has since turned the estate into a fine place to stay.
The beach at Oracabessa on the Golden Eye estate, is where they filmed this iconic scene from Dr. No. I was obsessed with this lady as a young man, and the only time you have ever heard Bond sing..........d:o)
Man, I need to get on a plane.........d:o)
