Are there any trips bookable from Rovinj to Motovun or is car hire our only option?
Will anyone be on holiday in or around Rovinj 21st - 28th June?
I'm planning to go with my friend to Istria in the end of June to have a fishing excursion by boat (1 or 2 days)
Can you reccommend a place or company to do that?
We need boat, fishing gear, fishing permit.
We are planning to spend at least a week in Istria and are not sure what town would be best to use as a home base to tour the area. What are the must see towns to visit in the time we have?
Hi there how are you all:-) just wondering if anyone on here is going to be in istria especially near vrsar/porec or Rovinj in early August as i will be travelling there for a week and it would be good to meet up and have a few drinks and chill out while iam on holiday:-),all the best raj
We will be staying for a week in Opatija in the end of August and I was looking for some interesting trips to make from there (we will have a car). We'll definitely make a trip to the Plitvice Park, Motovun (drive there, town itself) is on our list, so is Pula (amphiteatre, city center).
But what else would you recommend?
Close to Opatija: Lovran, Labin, Rijeka, Volosko?
Islands: What is the best way to reach Krk and Ces? Via a drive over the Krk bridge or better via a boat from Brestova? What are nice beaches? And is it best to drive there or take a "island hopping" tour by boat?
Inland: What other towns or scenic routes would you recommend besides Motuvun?
Restaurants: In the east of Istria, what restaurants would you recommend for fresh sea food and hearty local dishes?
A lot of questions, but I hope you can help with some of them :)
As my wife and I are allergic to most insect bites and get nasty reactions from such, I am most interested in getting advice about insects/mosquitos on the Istrian coast. I have seen from all photos from Istria that there are lots of trees and forest right down to the beaches, and usually this is a good breeding ground for mosquitoes. Being used to insect free Greek islands, I really want to know what the situation is on the Istrian coast before we book any holiday there. Please, advice, experienced travellers.
We have booked a holiday in Rovinj in August and are about to book flights. It's cheaper to fly to Trieste and I wondered if it was possible to travel to Rovinj by bus or coach from Trieste Airport.
Would be most grateful for any suggestions and help with bus timetables. We would probably be landing at Trieste around 14:30 pm.
We will rent a car from Zagrep and we will go down to Dubrovnik by car. I have four questions :
1/Do I have time to visit İstria region ?
2/What are the cities that I shouldn't miss for my first trip in Croatia ?
3/Which are the cities or island that I have to spend more than one day ?
4/Can I take my car to the islands like Korcula and Hvar ?
Finally I ask to people who know croatia well if you were for the first time in Croatia how you would orgonize your 8 days trip from Zagreb to Dubrovnik ?
I didin't reserve any hotel my trip is it a problem can I find places and better prices by walking in the places ?
Thanks for your time
Need some price info and if anyone have any info on how to get to the bus station in Rejejka from the train station? Have to leave at the crack of dawn at 06.05 departing Budapest Keleti on the Venice train to Zagreb, then onwards by train to Rijeka and then bus to Pula. Traveling with my 10 year old daughter who will have her birthday the same day we are traveling so want the trip to be as pleasant as possible.I already purchased the rtrn train tickets Bpest-Rijeka but need to know the bus price from Rijeka to Pula. I know the bus is quicker from Zagreb but my daughter gets travel sick on long bus trips. So any info also on the Zagreb to Rijeka by train trip much appreciated ...
Hi. we are going to pula and surrounding area middle of september 2009. we are self catering for 5 nights and B.B for 7 nights . first of all is the weather warm? and what sort of prices do we pay for a meal in the evening, it being main course only and any ideas of the price of a cup of coffee and a pint of beer. This will then give me some of an idea of what to budget for,we are not fussy people but we do like nice surroundings and more or less home cooking type food. If anyone has any other infomation it will be much appreciated.
I have a detailed map of Istra (1/110,000) that shows a custom office on the border between Slovenia and Croatia on the main roads. They do not show any on small roads. Does that mean that these road are not open for border crossing ? (or may be only for locals?) I am especially interested in the road from Motovun, Livade, Sv Lucija (Croatia) to Gradin, Trebeše, Gracišce (Slovenia). Sorry, I cannot get properly the C with diacritic for Gracišce!
Hi, had found a really nice apartment but it's full for when we want to go (September). Now need to find another one quick. I've read all the advice on the site, just wondering if anyone has a personal recommendation really.
Want somewhere close to the beach - preferably near Pula although not for sure. Would also really like a balcony with a sea view, and it needs to be self catered. Alternatively if I'm dreaming any other recommendations would be good as well!
Does anyone know is there is bus service on Saturdays, (Oct 11) from Trieste to Rovanj, Pula or Porec? I have been to the bus schedule for Trieste but as I read it, there is no bus on Saturday going to Istria area except in "summer". No dates given as to what "summer" means.
we will be arriving in Porec from Venice and would like to know where to rent a car to drive coast to Dubrovnik? Any good deals and would like one way, leaving car in Dubrovnik.
My travel plans just changed. And now I find that I'd like to spend 6 days in Istria Peninsula. I won't be renting a car and need to get from Zagreb to Istria. Does anyone have suggestions as to what cities/villages I should visit in Istria using a bus as transport? And then after Istria, which village will be the easier so I can get to Zadar? (I heard there is a ferry there from somewhere in Istria but not sure.) many thanks
I am staying for a week in Rovinj and want to book another week which will be with a few adults plus a couple of children. Would your vote go to Porec or Pula and why?
What is the easiest way to get from Porec to Plitvice Lakes National Park in august? We would like to use the public transport and not rent a car. Is there a coach connection between Porec and Plitvice Lakes National Park and for how lond does the journey take and how much does it cost? Or does some local travel agency make trips to Plitvice from Porec?
Hi! The busstation at Trieste told us that it is no bus to Umag on Sundays. Is that correct? If correct, is there another way for a family with two adults and two Kids to get to Umag on a Sunday? We arriving Trieste by train. Thanks!
We are going from Venice to Umag by boat the 1. June and back the 11. or 12. June. Somebody that could recomend a boat company? The only one i see at internet is , but they actually dont run to Umag, but to some other cities (hopefully :-) neirby. Or maybe it isnt a route from Venize to Umag? Thanks! :-)
I will be in Croatia for 10 days mid-Oct., leaving out of Pula. I'm hoping to spend my last 2-3 days in Istria (arriving Saturday or Sunday, leaving Tuesday mid-day). I've read in many places that renting a car is the best way to wander around the region, but I am wondering how possible it would be to do by bicycle.
Do I need an International Driving Permit to rent a car in Croatia? (I'm from the US.)
Is it possible to bike instead, and how much ground could I cover in 2-3 days, as a casual rider? Or are the hill towns too steep to make it worthwhile? If by bike, where would be the best route or starting point?
I'm hoping to make it to Livade, Groznjan, Motovun, Rovinj, and Pula.
I have forgotten the name of a hilltop village in Istria that I visited in May 2007. It is near Groznjan. I have been told that it might be Motovun, but I am doubtful. Please see pics at . Many thanks.
I'll be in Istria at the end of August. My son asked about the possibility of a short fishing trip while we are there. Does anyone have some advice?
Hello there, my family and I (2 adults, 4 children) are staying in Vodnjan in August this year. I believe Fazana beach is nearest to Vodnjan. Would we be better taking a taxi or a bus and does anyone have any idea how much this would cost us? Where would we find a taxi and/or a bus station/bus stop? I've heard you can only buy bus tickets at a bus station. Also, are there any other beaches near to Vodnjan we could realistically get to by bus or taxi and how far are they from Vodnjan. Thank you.
We want to travel from Venice to Pula on Monday or Tuesday Sept 17 or 18.
1.The venezialine ferry does not seem to be going to Pula in September. Does anyone know why? We could travel to Rovinj, but no ferry scheduled Monday or Tuesday at venezia ferry. Is there another ferry or way to travel via boat those days?
2. can we rent a car in Venice and drop it off in Pula? Any car rental websites?
3. Is there a train from Venice to Pula?

My friends and I are trying to get to Umag on a Saturday. It would be really useful to know what the best/cheapest way to get there from
Pula (5 people)
Trieste (3 people)
Rijeka (1 stupid person)
Public transport is obviously ideal - so any details of that would be great. If not taxi estimates would be nice.
GF and I will be on holiday in Budapest in Oct...where should we go in Istria for 3-4 days and what is the best way to get there?
