Are/Is there any direct flight from Irkutsk to Beijing? if any, what is the airline? thanks
I'll be in Irkutsk for a week near the end of April. I was wondering what I should see while I'm there. I have some business for a couple of days, and will be free other days. I'd like to see Baikal while I'm there, and have a night or two out. Suggestions?
has anyone heard of the town of elabuda?
I am visiting Irkutsk in October and would like to use a homestay while there. I have read that there are plenty of people waiting at the train station advertising homestays on signs and I don't need to try and book one in advance. Is this correct?
I am travellling with my partner on the Transiberain railway and will be stopping at lake Baial. As we need to buy the train tickets upfront with dates we need to decide how long to stay at each place. We like the outdoors and have all our own camping gear with us. How long could you spend at Lake Baikal before you get bored? Is a week enough, or could you do more? Is there plenty to do and explore? And are you allowed to camp?
On my journey next month from Vladivostok back to the west (I live in Belgium) I plan to stay a week or so in the Ulan-Ude and Irkutsk region. Of course I want to spend two night or so in both cities. Beside of that there a lot of other interestings I should like to do:
- visiting a budhist monestary and spend a night there, if possible
- following the Circum-Baikal Railway to Port Baikal: partly by food, partly by train (if possible)
- take a boat to Bolschije Kotui and walk back to Listvyanka.
- maybe visit Olkhon island
- departing from from Irkutsk with the hydrofoil to Bratsk.
- … (other ideas coming from people knowing the region :-)
How can I best organise all of that? Are there experiences of other travellers
who done this in the past. Suggestions about homestays or other accomodations are also welcome.
All suggestions are welcome !!!!!!
Planning a trip to Lake Baikal in September and now a friend just told me that there are supposed to be some nasty flies around which even could kill you (after being infected by a virus/parasite or similar). Has anybody heard of this? Thanks for all info! bijo
Hello everyone! Planning a trip to Irkutsk in August and I heard there's a new hostel there called Baikalhostel. Did anyone of you stay there? Any comments appreciated! Thanks!!!
Hi there, I will be in Irkutsk in june and I was trying to think of the things that I could do there and I just came up with the weirdest idea and I need your help whether it's doable. I was thinking of getting on the fishing boat very early in the morning with some fishermen, offering them a hand in the job and participate in a real fishing trip ! :) I know it might seem weird, but It would be so much fun, I'm not really sure what else can I do there instead of laying on the beach. Another question - I heard from a friend of mine (but I'm not sure whether it's true) that a great, local meal is some kind of fish that has ice crystals in it's body - it sound a little bit stupid to me, but on the other hand if that was true.. mmmmm... Thanks a lot for your help Bartek
