Transportation

Hi! I will be on the island for a night in May and want to get to Westport in County Mayo. What is the best way to do this? We have such a limited amount of time and really want to see both places, so any sugestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

You could take the Aran Island ferry to Rhos a Mhil (Rossaveal), roughly a 40-minute journey. The 1030 departure is the earliest. There is a bookable bus transfer to Galway:

From Galway there are two direct bus services to Westport (it is also possible to get there with a change of bus). Timetables here:

The journeyplanner here:

http://www.buseireann.ie/

will give you details for the indirect bus journey as well as the direct one.

From Rossaveal you will need to get back to Galway so I will assume you are taking a package which includes the Galway shuttle? Why Westport? and where from Westport? if you are aiming for Dublin the easiest option is across by train.
