Is it a good idea to visit Indonesia in january-february (weather)?  (3 Answers)

Hello!
I'm planning to travel in Indonesia in winter (Java, Sulawesi and maybe Moluccas), but more I check and more it seems impossible to travel there at that period because of the rainy season.

But I'd still want to go there so I want to know a bit more how is the rainy season in this area. Is that violent and endless rainfalls all day long or more like intense yet scarce rainfalls with sun just after? Because to be honest I'd like to hike in some national parks with steep volcano trails and I'd like to practice snorkelling in Sulawesi. But I'm afraid just to deal with mud flats, leeches and turbid sea waters....

Can you tell more me about january and february in Indonesia? Should I try or should I choose another destinations?

Thank you in advance?

Is Sulawesi safe for travellers?  (5 Answers)

Hello!

I'm interested for a long time to visit the island of Sulawesi. I know it's a diving paradise but I've heard there are apparently many social/racial/religious tenses. And I'd like to avoid any troubles. So is there any kind of problems I should be afraid of or is Sulawesi a nice spot to visit, despite some remote tensions that are not tourists concern?

Plus I'd like to rent a car there if it's possible, because I know it's easier plus the island is huge. Is that possible? I mean the main roads look pretty fine so...

About the infrastructures, is that easy to go on islands with ferries or to hike in some national parks, with maybe some agencies for example?

Thousand islands - Kepulauan Seribu + general travelling tips for Java  (4 Answers)

Hi! I am travelling to Indonesia with my two teenageboys(15 and 18)in the end of July, travelling to and from Jakarta. Totally we will stay for 17 days. The itinerary is not set yet, so please feel free to advise :-) The most important, is it worth spending one week at thousand island, or is it better to stay one week at Bali (or another place for beach life, snorkeling etc) The plan is to stay around Yogyakarta for about one week + one week on a island/beach. We do not like touristic places,we book mostly private accomodation through AirBnB, we like to see how local people live, eats where local eats, like to explore the nature, culture, do some hiking, biking etc. Hope to get some advise and ideas for where to go, where to stay, what to see and what to do :-) Thank you!

Bali - 3 weeks Itinerary - solo traveller  (6 Answers)

Hi everyone!

I hope you can help me on this one.

I will travel to Bali for about 3 weeks next year in aug/sept. So I am well ahead with my research. It´s my first visit. I have made a rough cut of my itinerary - with several areas, that will be my bases - with various activities.

Do I have to many bases? Should it be trimmed?
Is my itinerary doable? Do I need to switch or scratch anything?
Do I miss any great activities? Open to any suggestions :)

My plan is to hire a day driver, when I travel from base to base and then make a daytrip at the same time. Combining it with daytours at the bases itself. Either with taxi, bike or my feet :)
Ideas to day driving tours would be cool!

Me:
I´m 41 but look and feel like 31 :) I´m laid back but like active vacations
I dont lie on the beach all day. I like great scenery, culture and local life.
I like bars with live music more than clubs and disco.
I dont ride scooters, but I bicycle.

I hope it all make sense...

Itinerary:

Ubud - 5 nights
Jatiluwih, Kintamani, Campuhan Ridge Walk, Mt Batur trekking, Gunung Kawi, Tirta Empul, Dalem Agung, Goa Gajah, Tegenungan waterfall, Butterfly Park, Lake Batur

Lovina - 3 nights
Sekumpul waterfall, Aling-Aling waterslide, Mayong Village Tracking Experience, Banjar Hotsprings, Munduk, Ulun Danu Bratan (Bedugul)

Amed - 3 nights
Snorkeling - Jemeluk Bay and Tulamben, Besakih (Gunung Agung), Tirta Gangga

Gilis - 4 nights
Relaxing, Snorkeling, Turtle sanatory

Sidemen - 3 nights
Trekking, What else to do?

Sanur - 3 nights
Fruit carving, Parasailing in Nusa Dua or Tanjung Benoa, Glass bottom boat in Tanjung Benoa, Padang Bai, Goa Lawah (batcave).

What is the actual threat of a terrorist attack in Indonesia?  (3 Answers)

Hi guys,

Im thinking about travelling to Indonesia for about 8 weeks this summer (July-Sept). I was just wondering what you guys thought the actual threat of a terrorist attack was? Obviously there was an incident in January and official concern is 'high', but personally I think it would be fine. I'd like to hear your input :)

Thanks!

Over-the-counter Mefloquine in Indonesia  (2 Answers)

Hi. Does anybody know if it is possible to buy Mefloquine over the counter in Indonesia? If yes, could you recommend a specific pharmacy in Kuta, Bali? And what brand names of Mefloquine are sold? Thanks.

PS.: I have been using Lariam previously with no side effects (so I do not need lectures on this popular topic) but it is not sold in Europe any more.

Hi Guys,

Digital Nomad: My next destination Indonesia  (1 Answer)

Was in Vietnam for the last 8 years. I am planning now to spend more time travelling around Asia spending my time diving and working online.

Indonesia is my next destination but I am wondering about the quality of the Internet in Bali or in remote areas. Feedbacks are welcome?

Is there in Indonesia like in Chang Mai in Thailand a community digital nomad?

Want to see the sun rise over Borobudur  (5 Answers)

End of May this year we'll be in Indonesia (Java/Sulawesi ). One of our must sees obviously is Borobudur. I understand it is possible to go in very early (around 4 am) to see the sun come up on the temple. Our hotel (Roemah Boedi Private Residence ) is supposed to be close to the monument.
I wonder if we can simply reserve a taxi the evening before and go toward the temple. Is there any special ticket or arrangement to get in to watch the temple at that time in the morning??

January-February in Indonesia. Is it raining every day?  (4 Answers)

Hello guys,

We are planning to visit Indonesia from the end of January to end of February (one month in total). As I check on internet, it seems like it's raining almost every day and some people say its not recommend to visit the place January-February. Has anyone been there that period? Actually we have no other period free to travel and we would love to see Indonesia, but will we really enjoy it? Or it's better to choose another destination?

Thank you a lot.

looking for the perfect beach stay over in Bali, Java or Sulawesi?  (3 Answers)

We're planning a 3 week holiday in Java and Sulawesi next year May/June. To make a change from the culutural visits we'd like to include a 3 night stay in a beach resort (white beaches, palm trees ... the idyllic idea of a beach vacation ). FYI we do not dive, we might snorkel for an hour but that would be it.
Since Java does not really have nice beach resorts our agent proposed Kura Kura Resort (small island with only a resort ) for Java. Option 2 would be a Bali resort. Option 3 Bunaken (Sulawesi ).
With Kura Kura we would loose some time traveling to and from the remote island so I'm not quite ure if this is worth while only for 3 nights. When I look up Bunaken it seems nice but heavily oriented towards divers. And Bali.... I've talked to people who've been and no one had stayed at the picture perfect place. Many seem to look good on line .. but often in reality it boils down to beaches with shallow waters (so no stark blue waters ) or the beaches are covered with green stuff, black sand beaches in the North of Bali ...
So has anyone been on that picture perfect resort in real life (period May/June) in Jave/Sulawesi or Bali? Please let me know!

Flores, Indonesia Overland Travel Route advice  (3 Answers)

Seek for advice from anyonen who explored Flores before or who are familiar with Flores.

I plan to explore Flores after a LOB Komodo dive trip, the boat will drop me in Labuan Bajo around noon, one of my friend will join me for the extend stay. We have roughly 7 days 6 Night (but the day 7 leaving Flores - Maumere / Ende around 7-8am) for a connection flight at 1pm in Bali back to our home.

My plan for the overland route is something look like this On 25 April 2016: Depart Labuan Bajo to Dintor / Denge (either Wae Rebo Lodge/ Denge - Wae Rebo lodge look nice as staying near the paddy field and beach side which can spend some visit?). Depart from Labuan Bajo around / 1pm-2pm, Then arrive the homestay overnight

On 26 April 2016: Go to Wae Rebo trek, stay overnight at the village on top of the hill or come back to the Dintor/Denge on the same day evening for another night at the bottom.

On 27April 2016: Go to Bajawa, maybe some hotel / homestay nearby Mt Inerie

On 28 April 2016: Plan A: Sightseeing around Bajawa n Surrounding Mt Inerie, then travel to Moni/Kelimutu area Plan B: Trek up Mt Inerie, then sightseeing Bajawa, another night at Bajawa.

On 29 April 2016: Plan A: Visit Kelimutu then go to Maumeeree or Edne Plan B: Bajawa to Moni/ Kelimutu area, explore around

On 30 April 2016: Plan A: Explore Maumeree. Or Explore Plan B: Visit Kelimutu then go to Maumeree or Edne

On 1 May 2016: Fly back from Maumeree / Edne to Bali (morning flight7am) then to Malaysia (afternoon flight1pm)

Questions

-Ideal plan is to cover Wae Rebo, Mt Inerie, Kelimutu, and a little bit on Maumere/ Ende, as not so sure the exact duration that will be taken from one point to another, really appreaciate some advise so we could see if our plan route is feasible or not, or we need to either drop Wae Rebo (e.g Labuan Bajo to Ruten then Bajawa- Kelimutu- Maumere/Ende) or Mt Inerie/ Maumere/Ende (Plan A or Plan B)

-How long is the journey from Labuan Bajo to Dintor / Denge? -Is it easy to get a Taxi or Private Car at Labuan Bajo? Believe by the time we reached either Dintor / Denge it is late night already. -Any one stay in Wae Rebo Lodge before? How far is the Wae Rebo Lodge to Denge travel information hut? and do you know if they will arrange the Wae Rebo trip (as we may need transport to go) or it is recommended to directly stay in Denge to skip the transport issue. - Is it possible to do day trip up and down on the same day for Wae Rebo? (Guess, If stay overnight then we will be back on next day afternoon to continue the journey to Bajawa)

-How far from Denge / Dintor to Bajawa? Easy to get transport from there who willing to bring us Bajawa? if we depart around 12pm/1pm, possible to reach at night to any hotel nearby Mt Inerie or have to stopover one night at Ruteng? Guess the spider web paddy field is on the way.

-Heard there is one call Manulalu Villa is nice in Bajawa, anyone stay there before? is it close by to the visiting places like traditional village, hot srping and Mt Inerie? or is it recommend to be at the town? How far is the Bajawa town to the visitor places?

-For Plan B seem there is no time to explore either Maumeree / Edne as i guess we will arrive either of those town late afternoon or evening. If Mt Inerie is a difficult trek, and if there are other simple route that we could still see the nice banjaran of the mountain without hiking it up, we could drop the idea of Plan B, is Plan A enough for one traditional village nearby Mt Inerie and a simple trek (not hike up) around the Mt Inerie? There are many traditional village at Bajawa, which one worth the visit with our limited time?

-How far from Bajawa to Edne/Moni/ Kelimutu area? Is it recommended to stay Edne on the day before Mt Kelimutu trek? or Eco Lodge at Kelimutu a better option?

-After Kelimutu visit, thinking the two nearest airport is Maumeree or Edne, which of it worth more to explore? As we only have half day or some time if so happen those nice places are located on the way during the journey to stopbyl (if we are with Plan B)/ one day (if we are with Plan A), so far only know Sikka village with a nice Portogues Church at Maumeree and also a floating village wuring, not so sure about Edne.

-welcome for any good homestay/ hotel/ guesthouse recommendation, also for any good driver, we are ok with limited or just simple English speaking as we are from Malaysia, able to speak a little Bahasa Indonesia.

Thaks for all advices in advance

Must sees Java Sulawesi  (4 Answers)

We're looking into a 3 week trip to Java and Sulawesi. In Sulawesi our main (only ) objective is to visit the Toraja. Java : obviously Borobudur, also Prambanan, Yogjakarta, Mt Bromo, Ijen NP. But what else should we put on the itinerary?
We love 'couleur local' (minority villages and alike), nature, culture. We're NO hikers. Do like the 3-max 4 hours easy walk, but there's where the fun ends for me.

Is Indonesia safe for 2 young female travellers to stay in for 3 weeks?  (4 Answers)

My best friend and I are both 18 years old and are hoping to travel to Indonesia for 3 weeks, however my parents are having some difficulty with letting me go as they think it won't be safe. My friend is a very experienced British traveller, travelling throughout Africa, Middle East and Europe throughout her childhood with her family and also living in Malawi for many years previously. I am from India and have experience travelling there with the family. How can I convince my parents it would be safe for me to go? If it even is.
