Hi guyz, 1)Is it compulsory to leave your passport as a form of deposit with them when staying in hostel(HI or private)/Guesthouse/B&B.l was "forced" to do that at a hostel in Vienna and thought it's very dangerous.Would the hostels/Guesthouse in Taipei and HK require u to do that and would u comply? 2)Do u normally leave your real, full name when registering at the hostels/private guesthouse? Why should/shouldn't l do it?What are the pros and cons? Cheers

Hi guyz, 1)Would my UOB(United Overseas) Bank ATM card (Plus system)with a 5-digit PIN work on ATM machine in HK to withdraw HK dollars?Where are these machines located and which bank ATM? What about using my Visa credit card(Plus system)with a 6-digit PIN to withdraw money from ATM machies,l suppose the interest rate is much higher?? Some say the ATM in HK only works on cards with a 4-digit PIN. Friends in HK pls kindly call the banks to check out if this is true. Cheers
Peking Garden was the unanimous recommendation for the best peking duck in Hong Kong but I'm sorry to say I was disappointed with the duck. I may be a bit spoiled when it comes to how well I like my duck cooked but isn't it that peking duck's supposed to have really crisp skin? I guess my next question is, if I'm looking for the best peking duck, regardless of price, with skin that's really crisp, where do I go?
I went to book at the Salisbury, but the prices seem to have gone thru the roof - C$250/night for a harbour view single. Any suggestions for a place like what the Y used to be like??? ie cheap and close to Star Ferry? thanks
Is it true that the Dragon Hostel() in Mongkok,HK area is not safe.Mongkok is supposed to be very vibrant area where every visitor to HK shouldn't miss ,shopping in ladies market etc.Does it mean it's safe to visit the area but not lodging there? This is my third visit to HK.l've stayed in the Stanford Hotel near Ladies Market 2 yrs ago and l felt safe and convenient. The Dragon Hostel is supposed to have 15 years of professional management with lots of serives and facilities mentioned on the website. How true is it,anyone stayed there before?l vaguely remember it was recommended in Lonely Planet/Roughguides? Does it mean Chungking/Mirador Mansions is safer/cleaner than Chinese-run Hostel in Mongkok? Could hk friends kindly find out and advise. Address: Room 707, 7/F Sincere House, 83 Argyle Street, Mong Kok, Kowloon Telephone: (852) 2395-0577, (852) 2789-0261 (852) 9347-4767 Thanx!
It's been a few years since I've been in Hong Kong and the last time I went up the Peak was with a tour. Is there anyone who can give me specific directions how to get up there on our own? We'll be coming from Tsim Sha Tsui coz we're staying at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile. Who's got a recommendation for the best restaurant that serves Peking Duck? Thanks a bunch in advance. :-) Syl
