We just returned from a fabulous month in New Zealand. While in Hokitika I was looking seriously at a piece of flowered greenstone. I did not get it, but now am regreting that decision. Unfortunately, I did not get the name of the store.
I believe the store I'm looking for was on the west side of Revell St, south of
Weld. It was a very nice store that sold only jade, and had 4 separate rooms.
If anyone could provide me with the name of the store, and either an e-mail or phone number, I would greatly appreciate it.
If you do not get a reply from someone who knows the store, there is another way that will cost you a little in toll calls. Phone Telecom Directory in NZ, (it is 018 from within NZ, but wouldnt be hard to get a hold of) and ask them for Citizens Advice in Hokitika. Most towns in NZ have a citizens advice beaurou or an Information Centre, one or either will be able to tell you exactly if you can describe where the store is. Or, did you stay in Hokitika? If you did you could ring the hotel and ask them.
Could it have been Gordon Wells Just Jade Co?
197 Revell Street
www.jadecountry.co.nz has a link to Gordon Wells carvings, where you can see his online shop
What a pity! I am in Hokitika every now and then and have been there the last time only two weeks ago, so I could have checked which store has four rooms. I have been in all shops several times, so cannot recollect how each one of them looks...
I also strongly suggest that it is Just Jade in Revell Street. Other shops that are specialised in jade are the Jade Factory in Weld Street, Tel. (03) 755 8007, and Westland Greenstone in Tancred Street, Tel. (03) 755 8713.
As you speak of flowered greenstone - was it perhaps RubyRock? This would be in Tancred Street, Tel. (03) 755 7448. Or look at: http://www.nzrubyrock.com/
If none of these shops is the one you are looking for - I have a list with Hokitika shops, so I could give you more addresses.
