When is the best time for swimming at Helgoland's beaches? Did you find the water pleasant and warm enough for swimming?
As far as I know, the only place to swim in the North Sea is the neighbouring "Düne" island, where recently a holiday village has been built. I haven't been there, but usually the water is warm enough only from late June to the end of August.
A ferry takes you to this "Badedüne" which has beaches for nudes and people in swimming gear... The dune has a north and south beach, so two major beaches. It is nearly as big as Helgoland itself.
It's very nice of you to be so quick! This Dune island - is it far from Helgoland? Personaly, I was under impression that Helgoland had it all! Cleanest air, warmest sea, clean beaches - the ultimate holiday place for Germany.
the ultimate holiday place? Hm, Helgoland is special due to its location, but there are quite a few German North Sea islands that have a lot better infrastructure and are much easier to reach.
The Düne island is very close to Helgoland, there used to be a land connection between the two islands a couple of centuries ago. Regular daily ferry service exists. I don't think the crossing takes longer than 10 maybe 15 minutes. You can see the Düne island on many pictures of Helgoland.
As for beaches, you might wanna consider the North Sea island of Amrum, and then of course there is Sylt which has excellent visitor facilities, also for those bad weather days that are unavoidable at these northerly latitudes.
