Hello. After reading all the negative and quite scary info on Hartford, I am now nervous about seeing a concert at the XL Theatre. Also, staying at the Holiday Inn Express (downtown).

Can someone PLEASE give me some more info about this area and is it pretty safe there? I would really appreciate it. My husband and I don't get away much. Was looking forward to a concert and now I am scared to death!

It's been a while since you posted this question, so may not need the info now, but...

Not sure what scary stories you've heard about Hartford, but we don't have a huge crime problem. It's just like any other big cities, you need to use some common senses. We go to restaurants and theaters in downtown area at night, and have never had problems. The Holiday Inn Express is near the train/bus station, so I don't recommend that you go out after midnight, but till the restaurants in the area close for the day, you don't really need to worry about the area much at all.
