We are off to Hainan in about 6 weeks and we have 5 nights/days in Yalong Bay/Sanya area. We are not particularly beachy people - well not for 5 days, so will be looking for some excursions.
The hot pools sound nice for one day and another will be looking around the shops I suspect, but I have also read that there is a high speed train to Haikou, do you think it would be safe (eg. have enough time) to do a day trip?
Also is there any shows/theatres shoowing traditional Chinese performances in Sayna?
Thanks for any hep you can provide.
I am moving to Sanya Bay, Hainan, China in about a month. I have been looking for information about traveling to the island. For example, what sites to see, where to stay, where to eat, and where to travel. However, it seems difficult to find out a lot about the island. Could anyone help me find out where English speakers get most of their information about Hainan? References and wed sites would be a huge help.
Hello forum folks!
I'll be heading to Hainan in late March, but I'm not so much interested in the beaches as the forests and farms. I would like to visit the Jianfengling National Forest Park, but it seems no public buses go there. Does anyone know how I can visit the place? I will be travelling alone on a budget, so I don't want to hire a driver to take me around.
Perhaps there is a good reasonably priced day trip offered by a travel company? Any recommendations? Or do you think it's not worth visiting?
Many thanks in advance!

2. Mingyang Hotel Haikou (city center)

We (6 of us) are planning a trip to Hainan Island in early September. Heard that we may not need a China visa but am not sure about it. Do any of you Vters know anything about this ruling and how do we go about applying for it. Can we just fly in and apply for an entry pass? We will be there for 6 days.
What will the weather be like in September? Will it be easy to arrange for some transportation to take us around? Are there buses from Haikou to Sanya and othere points of interest? We are also looking for hostels in Haikou, Xinglong and Sanya.
in May we (7 People) are planning a 5-day Holiday on Hainan Island/China. I would like to get a draft orientation of the Island. Which direction (North, South, East, West...) is recommended for a beautiful beach Holiday?
We are looking for places with less Western Toursits and Hotel prices at local level.
Our tour starts in Guanzhou Area. How can we get to Hainan from Guanzhou when NOT using Plan or Bus? We prefer either Train or Boat. Any recommendations?
Thanks for your suggestions and experiences.
By the way, I speak fluent Cantonese, so communication should not be a problem...
We're thinking of coming to Hainan in Late December.
Can someone give me an idea of what to expect weather wise?
Is it usually about the same temperature as Hong Kong?
Is it a very busy time of year?
What's the best / cheapest way to get from HK to Heinan by train, bus or ship.

I am going to Haikou on 28th Sep and be there for 2 nights. Any good hotels to recommend?
Hello All, need some help from those who been to Hainan island or from Hainan island. I plan to visit my ancestral village in Hainan island sometime early next year. Heard that my ancestral village name is "Bon Siow Qua" "Bei In See". It is the same village where the Soong QingLing (wife of Dr Sun Yat Sen) came from. I may not spell the name of the village correctly.
Can someone here in VT tell me the right village name, where is the exact location of the village and how do we get there by bus or taxi. What is the distance from the main city?
A friend like to buy a condo in Qionghai, Hainan. Good price, but small town. What is the area like for vacation? How would you describe the city and the surrounding area, countryside? Thanks!
We are planning to visit Sanya but our flight will arrive in Haikou. Can someone pls provide me with information on public bus services to Sanya. Are there public buses from Haikou Airport to Sanya. If not, which hotel is within walking distance to the bus terminal.
Any recommendations on hotel in Sanya and Haikou.
We are travelling to Hainan from Hong Kong on Tuesday August 8.
We are wondering what is the best way to get to Hainan from HK.
Regarding the train/ferry from GZ, how do we book ?
Is it usually booked out or can we just arrive and buy tickets to leave that day ?
How often does the train leave GZ...daily ?
And where does the train leave from ?
Also, is there a boat service of some kind that operates between HK and Hainan ?
Thanks for any help ?
I will be visiting Guilin this coming weekend. I'm wondering that if i went from Guilin to Zhanjiang would I be able to catch a ferry from there to Hainan? I will have a week of free and I would prefer to travel overland rather than by air. I would love to visit Hainan if its possible and within my budget. Any advice would be greatly apreciated, thanks in advance,
We plan to get to HK by Cathay Pacific and then from there to Hainan. is there any direct flight to Hainan from HK?
Also , any recommendation for a free and easy tour for family in Hainan, any nice family hotel anyone would recommend?
My husband and I are considering going to Sanya in Hainan for the Labour Day holiday (1-7 May). I've been reading up a bit on Sanya, and it seems that the price level (esp. for a holiday like the May holiday of course) and the aggressive sellers and taxi drivers are the main drawbacks of the place.
Being foreigners in China, we are used to getting attention and a lot of "hellos", but is it really very bad in Sanya? (I am a natural blonde...) if so, I might not want to go at all...
Let me know what your experiences have been of Sanya/Hainan! Good and bad :)
Thanks a million,
I'm planning a 40 day backpack around southern parts of China around April and May.
Will definately visit Hainan Dao, as I want to visit/find my ancestor's village, etc. At this stage planning to spend at least a week in Hainan. On the mainland, I plan to visit quite a few places Emei Shan, Tiger L.G., Lijiang, Dali, Guilin/Yangshuo. (May be over ambitious on my trip planning)
Should I start with Hainan or end with Hainan on my trip?
Anyone can comment on the diving there? Any special sites, etc?
Planning to fly into Haikou from S'pore and leave China via Haikou to S'pore. It is hard to book flights online from S'pore to Haikou. Tiger Airways has new flights to Haikou, but all booked out at this stage.
I am in New Zealand which makes it harder to find out who else flys direct from S'pore to Haikou. Any other airlines you may suggest would be great.
i was wondering if there were any direct route from HK to hainan. i know i could travel over land to guangzhou then onward to hainan. could i take a train to hainan? i heard that the train ride inculdes a ferry ride to the island, but i'm not too sure. if i were to take the bus, from where do i board it? is the bus station near the train station? cos i'll probably be taking train from HK to guangzhou. but still trying to find a more direct (ie ferry other than airplane) to get there. the airfare seems to be rather costly. thanks!
hey there anyone know how to get to hainan dao from hanoi and if so the easiest or cheapest way thanks

I went there last summer and it was kind of "da pai dang" in chinese with literally hundreds of tables, it was also a seafood market within so ppl went there to pick whatever they want and bring them to a group of ppl who serve some particular area for cook. Can't really remember the name of that place or if it dose has a name. In my memory it is not far from the beach (not a popular beach). The seafood there was really nice and cheap so I am definitely once I get the name and the location so thanks for your help in advance!
Doe anybody have any experience or advice about Hainan Airlines? I want to fly from Guilin to Haikou and then from Sanya to Guangzhou at end of May/early June. I have found their website but I can't seem to buy tickets online and the phone numbers don't work. Is it easy and reliable to buy tickets out there? I will be on a tight schedule with my mum so don't really want to leave anything to chance. Any help/ideas/advice would be brilliant! Thanks a lot
