I am going to guadeloupe in April and i'm planning on staying in saint-Francois. Can someone please give me any tips you may have of places to visit or to go out at night in that area or anywhere else. Also is it safe and easy to drive around the island especially at night time? thank you. if you can please email me any tips you may have.
what is the best scuba diving site from Terre Haut in Les Saintes? I will be there with the famille Feb. and want to get a dive in. I also would love to do some fishing. I like to wade in shallows for barracuda tarpon permit etc. Can't wait to get down there, especially as our first snow storm hit Boston this morning.
We arrive in Trois Rivieres from Les Saintes on Sat. Feb 20th and wish to go to Pointe a Pitre. It is a Saturday. Are there buses close to the Ferry port? When do they run. Thanks. Cannot wait to go.
Which type of car do I need to drive on and off-road in Guadeloupe? Thanks.
I do understand that I have to go to Point-a-Pitre and than Change to another bus Station (Bergevin). As this is a 1 mile walk I wonder if there is a urban bus to connect the two stations
We are a couple that are looking for cheapish accomodation in a good area for snorkeling.
We intend to have a scooter so could be off the coast.
Am checking out airbnb
Is it feasible to get around Guadeloupe wthout a car?
We used the busses and mini busses in Barbados and they were great, I only wish there was a similar system where I live.
One does not see much local colur driving around in an air conditioned box.
If public transport is not up to it are scooters readily available, I have some phone Nos. but cant find a website.
I was checking tickets from Sacramento to Guadeloupe, and it said, "No results match your search criteria". I finally found one, and it wanted me to go to Paris. My guidebook says there are direct flights from Miami and New York, but there are not. You have to fly to San Juan. It won't let me book one flight with layovers from Sacramento to Guadeloupe for some reason, except through New York and Paris. The only way would be to fly to San Juan, which requires two stops, than book a seperate flight from San Juan to Guadeloupe. I could also book a flight to Miami, since they are cheap, and fly to Guadeloupe from there via San Juan, but the tickets from Miami are really expensive.
Is there an easier way, with less stopovers.
I read some lady's St. Lucia tips, and she also said she had a difficult time getting to the island from California.
Are there any islands that are easier to get to from Sacramento? I am open to anywhere in the Lesser Antillies, that's outside the U.S. So not Puerto Rico or Virgin Islands. Preferably an island that has enough to see for me to spend a whole week there, otherwise I will have to island hop, which I can't really afford right now.
I kind of want to stick to Guadeloupe though, because it would be cheap, since you can camp for free.
We are thinking about moving to Guadeloupe and have an 8 year old child. How are the schools for children? Any one better than the another?
is anyone familiar with E.Gwada youth Hostel? if so could you give me some HONEST insights about it? Also what activities can be done there? Is there a close by grocery store.
is it possible to drive from St. Barthelemy (St. Bart), Guadeloupe to Pointe-a-Pitre Guadeloupe? if so, what is the distance? if not, is there some sort of ferry option? In attempting to locate distances, it seemed one site indicated that St. Marteen (Dutch Antilles) which is a different island/country was closer to St. Bart, than St. Bart is to Point-a-Pitre which are both in the island country of Guadeloupe.
we think about a 2-week-holiday in Guadeloupe in february.
We want to rent a holiday home in basse-terre and prefer a home not in a city or village, but very secluded.
Could there be a problem with crime?
I heart about riots a few month ago? Is this right?

We're going one week to Guadeloupe in next April. We're 4, looking for a place (2 rooms, with kitchen) near the beach.
Thank you for your suggestions !!

Hi: I'll be in Guadeloupe for 1 week from Aug 23rd. Can you let me know:
(1) Is tap water safe to drink, esp in hotels
(2) Is the voltage 220 or 110 - some websites said both so not sure.
(3) Any water parks in Guadeloupe?
I am sailing on the Maasdam and docking at Guadalupe and would like to know if it would be possible to get to the shrine of our lady of Guadalupe from the dock.
What would be the best method of transportation? Could I get a taxi at the port and how expensive would it be?
Thanks for any help ypu may be able to provide.
Hello again, another little question for you.
Are prices fixed as in france or do you have to bargain in order to get a fair price? What's the deal there when it comes to stores, markets etc?
Hello one and all.
I'm looking forward to my trip to Guadeloupe in april and I was wondering what I should expect to pay there. What are the prices for example when it comes to taxi, food, rum and been in bars? The usual stuff?
Thanks for any info, as well as any other tips you might have!
Hi, I'm a european student and i want to go to the caribbean this summer!
I've already searched on the net, but i don't find any cheap flights from europe to the caribbean?
Can someone help me pls?
The only money we'll probably spend in Guadeloupe would be taxis and maybe a local villager with a boat, as has been suggested.
Do I really need to get EUROS? Do you think that we can get away with US Currency?
It's me again. *smiling*
If we were to catch a cab from our cruise ship dock in Point A Pitre to Gosier, is it possible to gain access to beaches in the area? Or does one have to be a hotel guest?
I was looking at St. Anne, but Gosier beaches look pretty nice, and right next door!
We'll be docked at Point-A-Pitre on Sat. 12/15 from 8am-5pm.
The beaches in ST. ANNE looked gorgeous. I contacted the ONLY English speaking tour company that I could locate, and he quoted us over50 US EACH if there were 4 of us.... just for transportation. That seems way out of line.
Here's my scenario (from my original email to the guy):
Hi there, XXXXX-
Thanks so much for replying.
From what I've been able to research, CARAVELLE BEACH looks lovely. I've also seen mention of CANELLA BEACH in Gosier, closer to our port. Where would you suggest, XXXXX?
Here's my scenario....
*Pick us up at our Port around 9 am.
*Stop for us to buy some beer and ice. We'll have a cooler.
*Head to a beach or maybe 2.
*Get us back to port no later than 4 pm.
Can any of you folks suggest a plan for us?
Our idea of heaven is laying on a secluded beach, drinking beer and socializing with "locals". Unfortunately, we speak no French, but I did buy an cute little electronic translator!
I have GOOGLED until I'm blue in the face, and can't find anybody to hire.
We hate "ship organized" excursions.... they're like a cattle-call. We much prefer doing our own thing.
I thank you all in advance for ANY feedback, links or email addys that you can provide.
We are planning a trip to Guadeloupe in Decemberr and plan to stay at Canella beach hotel in St .Anne ( 70 Euro / room / night ) and Gite Pitchouri (280 euro per week for a studio )
Does anybody have experience with these places or a suggestion for a better location / better value for money ?
Any recommendations for a rent a car company ?
Hi, I am going to St Martin im mid March. Trying to figure out what hotel to stay in. I heard of Grand Casa Hotel, Domaine de Lonvilliers, however, not sure what to go with. I think I would like to stay on a French side. Is it better to pick a boutique hotel or a large hotel like Maho Sonesta beach or the new Wyndham that just opened in January. Also, should we rent a car or can get a scooter. Please recommend nice restaurants for dinner. Is there a point to take a day trip to St Barths. Thanks so much for your help
Do you have a picture of the dish, Colombo
I'm heading down to Guadeloupe with my wife and 2 year old in Nov/Dec.
Has anybody seen the Cocoteraie recently? Ever since they left Le Meridien, their website is down.
Are they under renos?
Would it still be considered the top Guadeloupe property?
How does it compare to the Sofitel Auberge de la Vieille tour?
Is there any place where one wouldn't find mosquitoes in the room? We have a net for our son but the skeeters LOVE me.
I'm off to Guadeloupe this coming September and I need to know what's the best way to go from Gosier to Terre-Basse ? I don't intend to rent a car...so would it be better to go by bus or by taxi ? Any idea about the taxi fare for that distance ? I'll have to be at Terre Basse at 9am...
Also, what is the weather like during that period ?
I am planning a trip to Les Abymes in a few weeks and would like to know how would I find a friend of mine who lives there. I just have her name, I do not speak French and have been trying unsuccessfully online to find her. What is the best way to go about this? Can anyone help me????
i often hear that the best way to get around the island is to rent a car etc...
If I am more into bicycling - is it any good there - is roads ok and is it safe to gp around on bike?
thanks in advance.
