My husband and I are going to Stockport at the end of June for 4 days to see my best friend. Can anyone recommend things to see and do that are on the bus or train lines in Stockport or the surrounding area? My best friend will be going through chemo so there will probably be a day or so that we will be entertaining ourselves. If someone can also recommend some places that are great for kids as we'll probably take her 6 year old daughter out with us. Are there any restaurants, pubs and even beers that you would recommend? This is my husbands first trip and my 2nd, but the last time I was there was 8 years ago and we didn't really eat out during that time.
Also what is your opinion about us wearing jean shorts, tshirts and tennis shoes? I've had several people tell me we should wear dockers or other style khakis and dark shoes but my husband wears nothing but nice tshirts and jeans or jean shorts.
Thanks for the help!
I understand Lord's Rake is "closed" to walkers. Does everyone stay away from this passage? If not, what is its difficulty rating? Are there any alternatives for someone with bouldering experience? I will be in the Lake district during the June 16,17,18 planning to walk Scafell Pike and Helvellyn. Any information would greatly be appreciated.
I've posted previously on this topic, however, I was just wondering if any more people had any comments on Ashton-Under-Lyne, England. I appreciate all the feedback thus far, just a bit excited I guess!? It is a bit off where tourist usually go as someone previously said, so it should be a extraordinary experience. Anyways, any comments on the environment of people that I may be around? What they like to do (besides watch football Manchester United my fiance is crazy over that team too)etc etc some nice places to go and visit and clubs/pubs to see!?
I am traveling to England for a long stay with my fiance in Ashton-Under-Lyne, England. My fiance keeps trying to freak me out :-( and saying things like Ashton is a bad neighborhood and I wont be able to walk to the store or anything of that sort and that theres crews on corners all the time and all sorts of things like that. Soooo I'm just wondering if while I stay in Ashton, If the neighborhoods are really like that...or at least on what he calls "Moss Side". Also, I would like to know what people around Ashton generally think about Americans and if there really is any reason why I should be scared? He was saying that I'll stand out cause yeah people are not use to Americans there and I understand that and accept that, but I just want to think that the people in Ashton are generally nice and kind, that they will only be curious because I'm American but not deliberately hate me because of it. So in conclusion, is my fiance just freaking me out for a little fun or are there any things that I should worry about or be self concious about while I'm in Ashton? Any tips on things not to say...or things not to do like give eye contact (which is accepted in America but I do know that its rude in other places)? Also, anyone have any suggestions on places to visit where me and my fiance can have a good time? Hey I'll be legal to drink in England sooooo don't leave out the best clubs! Thanks!
May I ask for a list of dharma centers in the Greater Manchester area? I am also looking for a Buddhist jewelery shop, any suggestions?

What is the best way for me to get online in Manchester City by Victoria Station and at Salford University?
Someone said something about orange wireless internet? I have not heard of this, are their any local dialups I can get an hourly account with?
I'd prefer a hotel with wireless but they seem to not be to common here.
I am looking for somewhere to stay, I will be going to Salford University on a daily basis for about 5 days. I want somewhere easy to travel to and from. The rooms for the event are near Vicrotia Station but are full. I can't find many other hotels online that are right there (Travellode is full, Mitre is a bit to casual for me, Ren. is just was to$). Are there any others, how is Premere travel inn? FYI It is a busness trip.
Any reason I cant stay near Salford Central or Picadilly (I'd prefer not to because this is not near where the other people will be, but if it is easy enough to get to from the University and the Airport I will be okay.
Thanks for any help!
Who can tell me the CHEAPEST way to travel from Manchester to Cardiff at the moment as I am travelling on a low budget.
I'm wanting to book a hotel for 2 nights on a weekend fri-sun but don't know which out of three choices to go for (as i am limited with prices). The choices i have are the Sachas, Golden Tulip and the Travelodge in the centre. It's a present for my freinds 21st. Does anyone know much about or have heard reviews on these hotels? The Sachas hotel looks nice and has a good location but i've read that the rooms are very old-fashioned, and dont whether its best to stay a bit further out of the city centre in the Golden Tulip, which seems a nicer hotel? But will that cost me more in getting to and from the city centre for the night-life etc?
Hi, I will be going to Manchester a week course in early Dec. As this is my first time to Manchester, I would like to find out following things:- 1) the weather at that time (to prepare for the necessary clothings) 2) any places of interest to recommend esp. in the evening as my class will end ard 5.30pm 3) heard there is a night market every Thurs. Will like to find out where is the venue. 4) any shopping areas to recommend. By the way, I will staying quite near to Uni of Manchester. Is the place accessible to the city and how long does it takes to tavel there. Thanks!!
I guess that I should also ask some other questions while I'm at it: - What areas of the city are both affordable and safe? I am moving from Canada, and I pay about 340 GBP for my beautiful, two-bedroom downtown apartment. I know I will have to pay more in Manchester, but I don't really want to top 400 GBP for a one-bedroom apartment. - What kind of public transportation system is in place that would connect residential housing to the airport? I am thinking about looking for work as a flight attendant and would like to live somewhere fairly close to the airport (but not TOO noisy), but more importantly somewhere that has easy connections to and from the airport.
I am a Canadian female planning to move to Manchester in Spring 2005 (probably March or April). I am having a really hard time finding online links to job postings and apartment vacancy classifieds. Does anyone know a good site for either of these things? Thanks!
I will be in the Manchester area for about 3 weeks and am wondering about buying a Britrail pass before leaving Canada. Also, know that with a Car rental you can get to many places where there is no train service. But I know the costs are pretty high for rental, petrol, and insurance. Anyone have any suggestions or personal recommendations as to car rental companies etc. Appreciate it!!! TED
I am going to be in Manchester this fall (2004) and wanted to find out what tours go to Wales, Scotland etc. from there. I prefer not to go down to London; but would like to be based in Manchester area. Also, any suggestions of some cheaper hotels or b/b for two people for a couple of weeks.
Hello, I am about to go to Clayton which seemingly is near Manchester and would like to know if there is a bus or train linking the center of Manchester and the town of Clayton. Besides I hesitate between two hotels Britannia and Travel Inn on Portland street, can you advise my choice if you know them, it would be nice of you. And the last question, is there something to do (pub or club) in the evening or night near these hotels even if I am on my own and speaking bad english ? Thank you very much in anticipation.
I will be in Manchester UK on a duty trip from 8-11Dec, and i would like to extend for 2 more days to do some shopping... can anyone suggest a city center hotel that offers the cheapest prices? im looking for a price not more than 40GBP..
