Travelcard vs Oystercard - London  (9 Answers)

Will be on a 3 day trip to London September 24th. Am looking to see all major free attrations :) and Mdme Tussauds and London Eye. My question is, being only 3 days travelling around London, which is the better option; the 7 day Travelcard or the Oyster pay 'n go. Will be staying in Stockwell area. All advise is welcome :)

easyHotel - worth it?  (16 Answers)

So we've been trying to find a cheap hotel in London for 2 nights in March. Most everything we've found has been100/night or more... and then I came across easyHotel which is "only" like62/night.

On one hand, they are on Tripadvisor with good reviews and the price is easily the best we've found.

On the other hand, their website doesn't seem to be coded properly (lots of HTML "warnings" displayed that shouldn't be), which makes me nervous about submitting credit card info, and their facebook page is basically a lot of people asking questions about their reservations that never get answered, which doesn't seem too reassuring.

So I was just wondering if anyone has previous experience with this place? Is it worth it to save so much staying there? Or is it too cheap for a reason?

Trains around GB  (15 Answers)

My wife and I are planning a number of train trips over a three week period. London to Edinburgh; Edinburgh to Stranraer (Scotland); Belfast (NI) to Dublin (IRE); Holyhead (Wales) to London. Does it make sense to get a pass or just buy tickets for each leg? If there is a pass can I get them in London? What about Oyster cards? I have used them in London but not outside of the city.
I also want to thank everyone who responded to my previous questions. I can't seem to reply to a reply. JK

2 for 1 offers question  (16 Answers)

I understand in general how the 2-1 offers work and I understand the need for a paper ticket from a rail station as opposed to a tube station. However, I still have trouble understanding the timeframe for which the offers are valid. We'll be arriving into London via train after visiting Bath, that we accessed via coach. We'll come into Paddington and I plan on keeping my paper ticket. At that point, how long do I have to take advantage of the 2-1 deals? Is it only the arrival day or is there a longer grace period for usage?

Where to Stay?  (8 Answers)

My husband and I will be doing a road trip in England next year and I would like advise as to where to stay. We will have a hire car and from what I have read it is difficult and expense to travel and stay in London. We will have 2 days there so thought we would stay somewhere on the outskirts, leaving the car at our accommodation then get the train into London each day. We will possibly be coming from the Brighton area then heading up towards Scotland so are open to any suggestions.

Premiership Game  (7 Answers)

Good Evening,

An American looking to travel for a premiereship game as a life experience. I am having a little googling trouble getting some basic facts straight. I thought perhaps the locals could help.

a) Looking for the basic timeframe of the summer season. What months can I catch a game?

b) Also looking for the biggest teams/rivalries accessible to someone staying in London and wanting to stick to public transportation. Willing to spend cash to get the tickets...but want a game that will be hotly contested and a rivalry. Something the locals will be very into seeing.

c) Wondering if there is a british version of a ticket reseller (in the US we have I am aware I'm unlikely to get a ticket to what I'm asking for from the team and will have to pay through the nose to get it 2nd hand. It's a bucket list thing so I'm fine with that. I was just not aware the best sites for that across the pond.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

We (husband, baby and myself) want to come to London in May for a week. I have been looking at accommodation and it seems too expensive.
Would it be possible to find a decent price self service apartment or hotel for 100-150 dollars even if it is not so central?. Any links??.
Also, how is May in terms of tourists and weather?. Thank you

Traveling to London for 3 days  (9 Answers)

Four of us are traveling to the UK in March arriving mid-day on the 21st, renting a car and staying in a Slough hotel (open to suggests on this)near train station near Windsor Castle until late Fri. March 23 before traveling onto the southwest. Our thinking is to go to Windsor Castle on the afternoon of the 21st then spend all day in London on the 22nd and possiibly some on the 23rd. I am trying to figure out how to get the most "bang for our buck" or "punch for our pound" as it were. I have looked at options like the London Pass with travel, Paper Rail 2for1(which I don't think will work for us), Oyster Card. We would like to see the main attractions like Windsor, Westminster Abbey, Tower of London, etc. as much as we can fit in during this time span. The question is: how is the best and most economical way to see London given the time period we have. Thanks for any help on this.

Great Britain in 10-12 days  (23 Answers)

We are planning a road trip in May to Great Britain for 10-12 days, beginning in London and ending in Dublin, Ireland. We would like to spend 2-3 days in London, travel the English countryside for 3-4 days, head up to Scotland for 2-3 days, then over to Ireland for 2-3 days.
I am hoping to get recommendations for the best places to visit while on this road trip. Which route in England would you recommend given our timeline: Leeds, Liverpool, Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester, etc.? What do you think are the must-sees?

We intend to rent a car once we are ready to leave London and return it in Ireland. Is this a possibility?
What is the best way to cross from Scotland to Ireland-Troon to Belfast or Larne? Is it easier to ferry the car, or would it be better to leave the car in Scotland and rent another in Ireland?

Same goes for Scotland: Edinburgh and Glasgow? Any other places in Scotland on the way to Ireland that are a must?

Also for Ireland: Belfast...???...Dublin.

Sorry for so many questions, we are just trying to find a place to begin. Thanks!

Where can I find a Hippie clothes shop in London or clothes made by the company RAPP?  (4 Answers)

Does anyone know where in London I can purchase Indian cotton shirts/blouses or hippie clothes or clothing that is made by the company RAPP? Rapp produces cotton and velvet clothes. I can't find any such shops here in Ireland and as I'll be in London for two days in December I would be grateful for any tips.

Clothing Donation Centers  (4 Answers)

I'm coming to London in June and packing a very small suitcase. I'm bringing inexpensive or used clothing, which I intend to leave. I hate to just throw them away - are there donation centers around Bloomsbury or near a tube station where I could take them? My other option would be to leave them at the hotel with a note and some cash for laundry. Thanks for the information.

Renting apartment for a week vs staying in bargain hotels  (3 Answers)

Anyone have a take on renting an apartment in London? Any recommended brokers? Recommended places? I'm looking to get a 1-bedroom in May. Just not sure where to look. I was quoted around 800-Pounds for a 1-bedroom in Earl's Court. Is that a nice area? Close enough to Tube?

Or, should I just look for a bargain hotel? Anyone stay in the easyHotel chains? Those are cheap but too good to be true?

Luna Simone is recommended and they're asking for 90-Pounds for a single room. Is that as good as I'll get?

What's the most (...) street?  (17 Answers)

Hello, again :)

So, this time I'm wanting to know some things about the streets of London. I'll be there just for 3 days and I have to make sure I'll get the best of it, I'm couting on you all!

So, let's begin:

- What's the most "brilliant" street? Apart from picadilly circus, what is the street(s), or places, that are a must-see at night?

- What's the most "shoppy" street? With big street shops, of famous trademarks.

- What's the most "animated" street? The one(s) with plenty of animation, street entertainers, etc.

- What's the most "drinking" street? Plenty of bars - or pubs - to go at night. Dont' mean discos, just bars or pubs with a good mood and a good beer.

I think that, for now, that's all :)
If you want to give some tips about other's must-see streets, go on!

Every information will be of a big help planning my small trip to London and I thank you in advance.

All of your previous answers had been of a really great help.

Price of eating and drinking in London  (5 Answers)

Hello, once again!

So, time to spare some coins each month to my little trip to London!

Help me, please, knowing how much some things can cost... I'm not thinking of eating at really central places, maybe walk away from there a bit and then search for some place.

A normal meal, like a beef + beer /cola + coffee, how much would that be?
I heard that pubs are the places where we can have a lunch ou dinner for less, is that right?

How much for a beer, or a coffee?

If you mind giving some tips about other useful prices and the places we can have it for less, I would be reaaaaly grateful :)

Thank you again, you've all been very helpful in my late posts.
