Hiking / Outdoor Activities in the Tetons  (5 Answers)

We will be passing through the Grand Tetons on an extended west trip, and was looking for some recommendations on some outdoor things to do for two days. We would be up for a couple of short hikes. Does anyone have any other recommendations on enjoying the outdoors while in the area?

Thanks in advance!

How to plan one day in GTNP  (3 Answers)

I have planned to visit Yellowstone and Grand Teton in August end. My Yellowstone part is fixed and I am confident on that. I need some help in planning for Grand Teton.
01-Sep ==> Leave Grand Village Campground at 9 AM and head towards Grand Teton. After exploring GNTP, leave KOA Campground in evening. Overnight stay at KOA Campground.
02-Sep ==> Leave KOA Campground at 10 AM (I have return flight from Salt Lake City at 6 PM) and head back to SLC.
I will have one full day to explore Grand Teton. 42 miles is a loop and I am not able to understand that how should I put places in my one full day. What places should I visit and in what order ? We are not much into hiking, but small one is ok. Mostly we want to see beautiful places.
Please suggest.

Excursion recommendations  (2 Answers)

I will be traveling the last weekend of August through the 6th of September. We (3 adults) have two and 1/2 days in the Tetons. We will be doing a little bit of hiking, but need recommendations on the best excursions. We were thinking about possibly kayaking or rafting down the Snake River. Any recommendations on who to contact for that, or any recommendations on other excursions?

Seeing Grand Tetons in RV  (6 Answers)

We will be staying at Fishing Bridge a few days then coming down to the Virginian in Jackson Hole. We will have a 40' RV and car. Will we be able to do most of our sightseeing in the Grand Tetons on our way through or should we park the RV and go back up with the car?
Also looking for good places to eat on the way down and in Jackson Hole and in Cody (we will be staying there a night)

I am presently organizing a motorcoach trip to Wyoming in the spring, including Teton NP.Since this is primarily a group of senior citizens, hiking and other physical activities will not be attempted. Tough question but approximately what would be the time required to see the park and to stop at those places to photo or visit. Thanks for any help

1 day itinerary ok?  (1 Answer)

Still deciding if we should spend one or two full days at Grand Teton.

Here's my potential 1 day itinerary:

menors ferry historic district

jenny lake scenic drive

cascade canyon trail (take shuttle boat)

signal mountain summit road

oxbow bend

cunningham cabin

antelope flats

Should we break it into two days? Or are we missing something we must do in grand teton? Any recommendations? Thanks!

This will be in mid August

Visitor's Center Locations  (10 Answers)

My family visited this area including Yellowstone in 1948. We were driving our own car.

I'm going back again in June 2010 to Yellowstone. My daughter and her family flew into Jackson Hole and rented a car, drove through Grand Teton to Yellowstone and then went to the Black Hills and Montana and went home from there. But not only is it much more expensive to fly into and out of diffeent aiports and to rent a car one way, but I don't want to do that much driving. So I'm flying into West Yellowstone and renting a car and visiting Yellowstone from there.

I would like to pay a quick visit to the Grand Teton Visitor's Center to get my National Park Passport booklet stamped. Can I do this from West Yellowstone without driving too far? I have been unable to figure out just where the Visito's Ceneters are.

Things to do here in 2 of hours ?  (2 Answers)

We will be passing through the Grand Tetons on our way to YNP. We are leaving Jackson Hole airport around 2:30 PM and would like to reach YNP before dark. So I guess we can spend a couple of hours in the GT. Is there anything we can do / see in that time frame? We are interested in wild life viewing / photographing the scenery.

Teton Crest in July - Advice, Please!

I'm planning on coming out and hiking the Teton Crest from Teton Villiage, up past Lake Marion via the tram, and on to Lake Jenny beginning on July 20. I have a few questions I'm hoping hikers experienced in the area can help me with.

- I wasn't able to get reservations. Any experience on being able to walk up and make this trip?
- Snow cover. I know it can take a while for some of the higher elevations to melt. Any idea what I can expect this year?
- Temperature. Most nights will be spent in the 8-9k foot range. What should I expect in terms of temperatures?

The best way to spend 1.5 days in Teton?  (2 Answers)

My wife and I will arrive in Jackson Hole airport at 3 pm this Friday. The plan is to drive to Teton, stay in a campground for 2 nights, then move to Yellowstone for 6 days.
I was told by park workers that they always have sites available in campgrounds

Friday: I guess it will be too late to do/see anything, right or wrong? Are there any places that are spectacular in the sunset or where animals come out to drink at night?

Saturday: What is the absolutely best way to spend a day in Teton? We are fit and like to hike but open to any activity.

Are there places to buy food/supplies (store, not restaurant)?

What car is better to rent? Does it make sense to get a convertible or an SUV?

Backpacking the teton Crest Trail - Transportation

Myself and two of my friends are intending to hike the Teton Crest Trail in August. We were hoping to park the car at the end (String Lake TH) and somehow getting a ride to the beginning (hwy 22 and Phillips Canyon Trail). Well. The question is. Is there any way that people typically do this? (public transportation/hitchhiking/etc...)
Thank you

GRAND TETON+YELLOWSTONE: Going in early May 2007  (4 Answers)

We're driving up from Salt Lake City, staying 3 nights in Jackson Hole, then driving up to West Yellowstone and staying 4 nights. Since we're going so early, the usual summer activities won't be available. Any other recommendations aside from hiking, which we will be doing. Never have been to either the Grand Teton National Park or Yellowstone. What in particular re: Grand Teton do you recommend not to miss?? We are in our mid-40's, two couples traveling together so while the Million Dollar Cowboy bar sounds fun, we don't particularly want to hang there every night. Other suggestions?

Routefinding - Lower Saddle to Teton Crest Trail  (3 Answers)

Does anyone have any info regarding a possible route westward from Lower Saddle to the Teton Crest Trail, perhaps descending into the Dartmouth Cirque via Dartmouth Couloir on the West face of the Grand then proceeding west to gain the Teton Crest Trail? I'll be attempting an ascent of the Grand via Upper Exum, then descend to Lower Saddle and hoping to proceed west (either directly or indirectly) to the Teton Crest Trail. Is this pure folly? Any help would be most gratefully received, and if you're in the area on the night of Aug 5th, come to Snake River Brewing and I'll buy you a beer. Thanks in advance! -figgs Kalamazoo, MI
