I need to fly a filmmaker from Gaza to Austin, Texas for a film festival. I have no idea what paperwork I might need or where to start. Can someone help? The festival is in three weeks. I am not sure how long paperwork would take.
That's wonderful of you! :-) I've no idea how long it will take (either)/if it's even possible, but suggest you first find out these:-
1) What passport does he/she hold? This will determine the answers to the next 2 qustions I'm asking and whether he/she can get a visa to enter the US.
2) Where he/she can fly out (definitely not from the Gaza!)?
3) If he'/she needs permission from Israel to exit the Gaza strip?
Might also be a good idea to contact the State Department to make enquiries on his/her admissibility into the US. And if you will need to sponsor his/her trip to the US.
Hope this helps.. Good luck!
The filmmaker lives in Gaza and has a passport. He is Palestinian. I am calling the Israeli embassy in the morning. Wish me luck!
Residents of the West Bank and Gaza must apply for a visa at the American Consulate in Jerusalem. The visa application process could take a long time, and involves making an online appointment.
I was afraid 3 weeks is too short! :( All the best!
Let us know if you succeed? Good luck! :-)
Since he lives in Gaza so he can travel through Egypt without the permission of Israel ...
All he needs visa to enter U.S. ... You Call the U.S. Embassy in Israel or Ministry of foriegn affairs of U.S.
> Since he lives in Gaza so he can travel through Egypt without the permission of Israel ...
That's exactly why I asked the OP what passport he holds? If he has e.g. an Egyptian passport, he can travel through Egypt (I think?).
And to contact the State Department in DC (not the Israeli Embassy) - I think the State Department handles these kinds of things? I don't think there is a MOFAs in the US! Am I right or wring? ;-)

If they can get to Jerusalem? ;-)
I think the Egypt option is more viable.. Since he's in Gaza, the Jordanian option will be out, too! :(
I will tell you something ,.. I'm living in Gaza ,,,
so I know , if he have any visa from any country so he can leaving from A crossing Rafah to Egypt .. with using any passport .
Solution A: he exists Gaza through the Erez terminal with Israel. Almost impossible, but you can request help from the American Embassy in Jerusalem. They do support Palestinians traveling out fo Gaza if they're invited by an official American institution. However it takes a LOT of time.
Solution B, more likely: he exists through Rafah terminal with Egypt, but here again it takes time as there are crazy lines. He'll need paperwork showing he's been invited to the USA and a visa to get on the plane once in Cairo.
