Formby Beach

How far (walking distance) is Formby beach from the train station? Is the beach easily accessible? Is there much shelter (for eating picnics, etc., on cold/winter days!)? Thank you in advance!

Haven't been to the beach in Formby for many decades, but I don't recall it as being 'sheltered' in any particular way (UK beaches do tend not to be so).

If you go to the NT beach it's around 20-25 minutes' walk from the station....a mile or so away. I don't know if you can access the beach from Lifeboat Road but that's about the same distance anyway: Formby's settlement centre is some way from the coast..

The NT website has info about its beach, access, facilities etc:

I was last at Formby beach a couple of years ago and can confirm there is no shelter for picnics, not even a cafe to warm up in. Picnic tables are out in the open.

It is certainly accessible in terms of how to get onto the beach and into the woodland area but a bit of a way from facilities in the town, around a mile away as above.

That said, a bright winter's day would be fab there.
