hello everyone, my name is Galya and I am from Bulgaria. Me and my friends are visiting South America in February - 14th starts it all. On the way to Argentina we have a 12hrs stop over in Rio. And we would like to see some of the city - as much as possible. So if you can advice us how we can hire some person with a car ( not taxi, as I asume will be very expensive), to take us from the airport, show us some of the city and drive us back to the airport? how much this can cost? and do you think it is possible to find such person? thank you in advance Galya
My friend and I are flying to Rio (GIG) airport on 31 March with KLM, landing at 18:00hrs. Then, we wish to board another flight with Aerolinas to Buenos Aires at 21:20. We are concerned that, if our first flight is delayed or passport control are slow, we will miss the connecting flight. We really do not want to spend the night sleeping on the floor at the airport and then pay again for another flight, so I would be grateful if anyone can answer the following:
1. Is 3 hours 20 minutes between landing, passport control, queueing to book into next flight, passport control, boarding the next flight etc. enough time on a very slow day at this airport?
2. If we miss the flight is there a cheap(ish) b&b/hotel near or at the airport?
3. Any other ideas/options please?
Thanks very much, Mark.
I have got an important question about the ferry to Ilha Grande from Angra dos reis. This ferry travels on 15:30 but in the weekend and on holidays at 13:30. We have to go this monday, 18th of october, to ilha grande, but we see that this is an holiday for the state rio de janeiro, but not a national holiday.
Will this ferry go on 13:30 (holiday) or 15:30 (normal monday)

My girlfriend comes by when I am in Brazil, she just had her birthday when she comes by. I want to use this opportunity to give her an unforgetable present, which can easily be done in such a nice country!
I thought about giving her a paragliding flight in Rio de Janeiro. My question is if someone knows a good, reliable company with a good price (Maybe the tourist office counts a higher price?)
But I think also about two other presents, which I am not sure if it is possible in Brazil, therefore this question, if anyone of you can tell me?
- Swimming with trained dolphins
Maybe, if it is possible anywhere outside Rio, my route is Rio, Ihla Grande, Paraty, Sao Paulo, Foz de Iguacu!

Hi everyone – Im going to be staying ipanema from 22nd oct – 3rd November and have a few queries ...
Firstly – I can’t seem to get the website for the Babilonia hype market to work – is the market still on? I’ve heard its every second weekend – does anyone know if its on 24th and 25th October or 31st October and 1st November? And is it in the jockey club as I hear it moves around to different locations?
Also – is it easy enough to hire and get around on a scooter bike in Rio? I’m a very experienced driver and I’m very use to crazy foreign driving and heavy rain – but are there major problems with bike theft? Any ideas about how much it would cost for a few days?
Also – I’ve heard that it is a public holiday on the 1st Nov for All Saints Day. Does anyone know if there is any sort of parade arranged or any special events arranged over that weekend that would be worth checking out?
I’m also considering a Flavela tour – but not a mainstream type that would involve a A/C bus and 50 other tourists – I’d be looking for a more intimate small scale local outfit. Any suggestions?
I’m also considering handgliding – and I have heard ‘Superfly’ is good – any comments?
Any advice on any of the above or any other ideas on alternative things to do would be much appreciated! Thanks for your time. Cheers - Vic
Ok we are booking the trip either tonight or tomm. Pretty much we only have like two options for hotel stay within our budget. I think we are gonna stay at Lancaster Othon Hotel on Atlantic Av. We plan to get hotel/flight for 2100$.
We are both 23 and plan to enjoy the beach and go out at night to some bars and clubs. We also plan to visit the Christ statue and maybe one other major attraction. What are some of the best bars and clubs we should go to during our stay? And how much money will we need to bring for a 10 day stay?

Our family of 3 is considering renting an apt for a short stay in ipanema but since we have never been there before and since I only speak Spanish, we would need a place that offers some sort of staff which is on hand to help with questions ie where certain restaurants are. It would have to absolutely have a pool and be within walking distance to the beach too. If you know of any such place or if you think the idea is a bad one, please let me know!

I'm going to be visiting Rio for the first time at the end of Feb with two of my friends. Been hearing a lot of news reports about recent gang violence spilling into some of the tourist areas of Rio. Is there any truth to this?? I've read all about theft in Rio and how it can be a dangerous city, but was just curious if things are worse right now then they have been in the past. Thanks.
We're off to Rio as usual for Christmas and the New Tear, and have just decided to spend Christmas itself in Paraty. I've been before, but a long time ago. Any recommendations for restaurants/ boat trips/ whatever?
Thanks in advance, Robin
