i'm an italian guy, i'm 22 and i have the opportunuty to go at Vicosa, state of Minas Gerais, for studying for 6 months at the universidade federal of vicosa.
I don't know so much about Vicosa, can someone tell me something about that city?
And how is to live there, what do you think and all what you think could be useful to me to know...
thank you very much, Matteo
I see that the tourist attractions in MG's colonial cities are frequently closed on Mondays. Is that the case with all of these (my tentative itinerary)
Diamantina, Ouro Preto, Tiradentes, Sao Joao del Rei
If they're closed on Monday, are they also closed on Sunday?
Perhaps I'd do better to stay in Belo Horizante on Monday?
Thanks for any tips
Greetings from snowy Paris
I'm planning a trip to Rio and MG in February and I would be delighted to have suggestions from fellow travellers. My questions relate to the first week of my stay during which we'll have a rented car to travel around:
-where to spend our first night in Brazil along the Coast? Saquaremos, Buzios, Cabo Frio? It'll be a Saturday, so finding a place may not be easy...
-where to be based to visit MG: 2 days in Ouro Preto, 2 days in Tiradentes ?
-is it easy to safely park one's car in MG small towns? I guess MG ismuch safer than Rio with a car, am I wrong?
-any close other place to visit in MG apart from the colonial towns and BH?
-suggestions about Paraty?
All suggestions about quaint places, good food or nice pousadas in MG and along the coast are welcome!
Where can I get a good map, hopefully in English for the state of Minas?
I have looked here in the US, but so far not much luck. A travel guide in English with a map would be ideal.
Does anyone know the best way to get to Espinosa? Fly into Belo Horizonte and drive, or bus, or ? Or Fly into Brasilia and car or bus?
I am going to be staying in Santos Dumont for a few weeks and really want to visit Ouro Preto, the Itacolomi Park, Sao Thome das Lettres and Sao Joao del Rei
It looks like it might be easiest to drive to these places than go by bus. So I was hoping for some advice on
1) How easy is it to drive around and how long might it take to get to these places ? (I am used to driving in the UK and the USA)
2) Where is the best place to get a car ? The airports at Belo H and R de J seem to be the only places in the area with car hire
3) Should I just see if I can find a guided tour that goes through the area ?
I have never been to Brazil before and as a geologist am really excitied about seeing Minas Gerais so I would appreciate any help you can give me
does anyone know if there's a bus from BH to muriae? or the best way to get to muriae from BH?
I have heard that there is an annual Mystics Fair / Festival in Dec/Jan in Sao Tome Das Letras - but unable to find any specific info on this.
Deos anyone have info or a Sao Tome contact for me?
Thanks in advance.
I will be in Pocos de Caldas in December 2006, I'm hoping to rent a Cessna 152, 172 182 or Piper to explore the area.
Any one familiar with the Pocos de Caldas Airport? I have the general Pocos de Caldas Airport info; runway bearing, length, communication/navaid freqencies, location, etc.
Does Pocos de Caldas Airport rent aircraft?
Any contact information for the Pocos de Caldas Airport.
We are going for a holliday to Pocos de Caldas from June 21. 2006 to July 12. 2006. We are looking for a appartment to rent. Need 2 bedrooms. Could anyone help us, or suggest a sit were we can find appartments for rent.

Hi VT friends! I am going on a business trip to Brasil in 3 weeks and I am supposed to travel to Sao Paolo, Rio and Pocos de Caldo. My question: what is the best way to go, are there flights from Sao Paolo to Pocos de Caldo and then to Rio? how many times a day, where can I find this out? Or how about going by bus? From SP to Pocos it is about 4 hours by bus I think, but what about from Pocos to Rio? And does anyone know a nice hotel in Pocos de Caldo? Thank you so much!
I'm an exchange student with Rotary International and I'm leaving for Juiz de Fora in July. I'll be attending school and living with about 3 host families, for a year total. I'm looking for information about how to get along in school and with my host family, Brazilian culture/customs/taboos, and how to fit in/make friends. Also, 2 questions: 1) Do guys in that area wear Speedos? 2) Are Brazilians really obsessed w/ soccer? Any help would be really appreciated, thanks.
I will be travelling around these two states next week and wanted to know if the following itinery is possible by bus and which companies run these routes: from Vitoria to Pedra Azul
Pedra Azul to Alto da Caparao
Alto da Caparao to Ouro Preto
Ouro Preto to Tiradentes
Tiradentes to Belo Horizonte
Thanks for any tips
