has anyone stayed in either Kapawi, Sacha or Napo in the Ecuadorian Amazon? I think Napo is the most expensive of this trip. Also, anyone stay at Bellavista Lodge in the cloud forest reserve?
Do buses in coast of Ecuador run as frequently on Sunday's as they do on the other week days? I ask because tomorrow Sunday Dec 21 I am going from San Clemente to Montanita. I was told I will transfer buses in Portoviego.
my destination is Bahia Ecuador, what airport should I fly into so I may take the bus? I am in search of the shortest bus trip as well as ability to get a ticket at bus terminal and board the bus within a short time.

My plane is getting into Quito airport at 12:55AM on Jan. 13. I am planning to go to a hotel in Quito. Tomake sure I get a room as soon as I get in do I have to book for Jan.12th or the 13th? Their normal check in time is 10AM. Thank you for any clarifications.
Hi, I am planning to go to Puerto Lopez, Cuenca, Vilacabamba. I have about 3 1/2 weeks. Getting in and out of Quito from the airport is a long way--is it worth the hassle of spending a few days in Quito? Cuenca seems much easier to navigate, especially since I am travelling alone. Otherwise, I would just stay near the airport and fly out to Manta the next day. I want a low stress relaxed vacation. Thanks!
Me and my girlfriend are currently looking at a trip to the Galapagos islands and the Amazon rainforest, to include both travelling and volunteering. A trip offered by amazon-rainforest-tours as a 44 day tour.
We do not know if the site looks like a scam though, as we can not find any reviews?
But do not want to rule it out straight away as it would be exactly what we are looking for!
Thank you for any help in advance,
We travelled for 17 days in Ecuador and on the 14th day I lost my camera during a busdrive from the beach Los Frailes to Puerto Lopez. It was around 3 pm. Maybe someone found it? It was our honeymoon and now all the rememberances are gone...The battery was already low and there were two storage cards in the case. It was a black Canon Ixus, a small digital camera...I would be so happy to get the storage cards back!!! Is somebody able to help me or give me a hint what to do?!!!
Our itinerary is almost complete now and I'm going to start firming things up this weekend. I'd still welcome any tips before we do. This is it;
Fly to Quito (5 nights)
Mindo ( 2 nights)
Quito airport hotel ( 1)
Galapagos, Puerto Ayora ( 13 nights including a cruise, whatever we can get)
Guayacil ( 1 night. Got a hostel next to the airport and bus station. Didn't want to stop here but do want to do Cuenca)
coach to Cuenca ( 4 nights)
Coach to Riobamba ( we now have 5 nights between here and Baños) We want to do the train and the loop and like the look of Latacunga. This is where we are open to suggestions
Baños ( 2)
Tena ( 2)
taxi with Suntravel to the airport and home
The only question we have is what to do with the 5 nights before Baños. We could add another night in Baños or Tena. Or spend 3 days on the loop. Thanks in advance. We're nearly there
We are a "mature" couple and have ridden buses all over the world but now would like to know of options to travel Quito to Banos a bit more comfortably. We would greatly appreciate hearing of companies any here have used or know of with good reputations. who would drive us in a car or a shared van.
Can anyone suggest the best location to stay at to go for a Whale watching? Is the mid September a good time for going whale watching? It seems like we should select between Puerto Lopez, Manta and Bahia de Caraques. Any suggestion is welcome and appreciated. Thanks.
I am planning a trip to Ecuador for this coming winter and will be visiting some with my niece who is in the Peace Corp. She lives in Milagro Guayos near Guayaquil and I am curious about traveling by bus in that area and really all through out Ecuador. I plan on splitting my time in different areas and need a little feed back as to the best beach areas in Ecuador and cities of interest. I will be there for at least a month. I am 66 years of age.
We're (2 people) coming in December for a 3 month stay.
What is the best way to find a decent place in the center of Cuenca
at a good price ?
Will they return my deposit when I leave ?
I had read about Posada La Estación in Urbina and thought it would be a nice place to stay in for a few days while I am getting acclimatized to high altitude. However, I have now read that the former Posada La Estacion has transferred into Refugio del Tren?
Posada La Estacion was housed in the old station building in Urbina and was run by Rodrigo Donoso for over 20 years. Now, when the train has started to run again he had to return the station building to the railroad company. Much of the interior was taken away to be used in other buildings.
I can’t find much information about Refugio del Tren or the current Posada La Estacion. I have seen a picture of Refugio del Tren () and it does not seem to have the rustic charm as Posada La Estación had when they were housed in the same building. And the only information I have about the current Posada La Estación is that it is housed in another building than the station house.
So now I hope that someone has stayed at either place recently and can give me up to date information.
My wife and I will be going from Quito to Cali in 2 weeks. We'd like to take a bus. Does anyone have information on where to catch a bus in Quito, best bus company, border crossing info, and approx duration. Any other tips for us along the route much appreciated. Thanks J&C
I had thought that I would wait until I come to Quito to purchase a plane ticket for Galapagos Islands as I wanted to be sure to get a ticket I can change flight dates on. However, it now seems there will be no time for that as I will go to remote areas immediately.
I have looked at TAMEs web page and they have two types of tickets when I want to fly, Flexible Fare (cheaper) and Flexible Plus (more expensive). What I understand when I read the Fare rules (for the Flexible Fare) is that it is possible to change the dates of the flight without any extra cost, and if only a more expensive ticket is available for that day I have to pay extra.
Does anyone have experience with changing dates of tickets purchased on line?
Do you think I have understood the rules correctly?
This is what is said on the web page:
17.1 note - 1.cancellation/ no-show/ upgrading a.cancellations - permitted with administrative charges usd 25.00 plus vat. if the tickets was sold abroad the refund will be apply according to the law of the country of sale. b.no-show - no charge applies. c.upgrading - applicable. reprice the fare to the level of upgraded class and collect the difference plus vat. 2. CHANGES- i. BEFORE DEPARTURE - permitted with out charge. in case the rebooking a fare change collect the fare difference plus vat when a new itinerary results in a higher fare charge the difference between the original fare and the new fare plus vat. ii. AFTER DEPARTURE - permitted with out charge. in case the rebooking a fare change collect the fare difference plus vat when a new itinerary results in a higher fare charge the difference between the original fare and the new fare plus vat. note.- combined tickets aplies the payment of penalty of the higher fare. 3. refund- permitted charges stated in point 1- literal a above.

I can't and don't want to pay a guide for climbing volcanoes which do no require a guide and it is much more interesting with friends. Contact me!!

My wife and I are planning a trip to the Galapagos in June. I'm looking for flight information. Is it advisable to book 1 week in advance while in Quito or to book several months in advance? I have found web sites for Aerogal, Tame and Lan ( best price $510 cdn) but have been told there are cheaper flights. Any suggestions on when and where to book flights?
what is the best to pack for April. Are shorts, skirts and summer clothing ok for this weather?
we are visiting Ecuador in early March and are debating wether we should take any malaria pills/medecine prior to our departure. The advices vary from each place we're finding information.
We do not want to take any pills/medecine if we don't need to, considering any of the side effects, etc.
We will be spending 2 days in Quito, 1 in Rio Bamba, 2 in Puerto Lopez, and 2 in Guayaquil to finish our tour.
Thanking you in advance!
We generally travel on our own; but there's this offer from Gate 1 travel that looks interesting (South America). Has anyone ever traveled with this outfit and if so what was your experience with them? Thanks.
What is the current travel situation for Banos? We are supposed to spend 2 nights there March 1 and 2. Is there a lot of ash in the air or on the ground? Is it unpleasant to visit? Any predictions for further eruptions that might cause us trouble during these next few weeks?
What to do in Otavalo besides the Saturday Market?
