New Year Eve

Will be spending New Year Eve Düsseldorf with my girlfriend on our way to Russia.
Any recommendation where we can book a restaurant /bar to spend the night while waiting for the flight?

There will be lots of stuff going on in the old city (Altstadt) and along the Rhine in the so called Medienmeile (Mediamile as many media have their offices here).

Here is an event hosted by one of the newspapers which has free access and a 90 Euro all inclusive buffet; the party starts at 12 noon and the buffet opens at 8 pm.
Ticketreservation until latest 28th December under +49177- 277 20 25 /email: [email] (I am not sure they accept email reservations, the website only gives the phone number for reservations)
Website in German only:

Additional events are listed here - unfortunately in German only as well:

Here the tourism office's website - in English

If you can not make reservations, an alternative could be bar hopping from one place to the next and see what the various locations are like. Düsseldorf features quite a lot of bars and places, so if you want to get a taste of various offerings, that could be an option.

Hope this helps a little - beware however, that most places will be quite packed.

Happy new year!

This is very useful answer, thank you very much.
I've decided to book a room in a hotel nearby the airport and from there, I'll take the train or a cab to the center and fight my way to the beer and the food.
Problem is, we'll be landing at 22:30, which means, we'll have to feed on peanuts or chips.

If it is only a few hours between flights, your best is a hotel directly at the airport, like the Sheraton Dusseldorf Airport Hotel. sheratonduesseldorfairport.c... Only a short 5 minute walk and no taxi costs. If you have a full overnight say with time to go to the city center you could take the train 20 minutes, maybe 2.50 Euro each and then there are many hotel choices.

Yes, we will do that, already got a hotel near the train station. My worry is will I find food? I know drink won't be a problem, but unless Airberlin serves us a full christmas dinner, I'm afraid I'll be searching for vending machines
