Dubai

traveling alone to Dubai

A friend has suggested I travel to Dubai but I would be traveling alone there. Is it safe for an American woman alone?

Dubai is safe for everyone, how many times I travel alone to Dubai from young age to the recent trip I made, never encountered any problem.

Dubai is perfectly safe. They even have taxis only for women, driven by women. These have a pink roof.

yes it is save for a woman to travel alone to Dubai. Dress decent and that's it. Not knowing when you plan to come, next week Ramadan starts and during the holy month eating, drinking and smoking on public places during the day is a big no no. Depending on the hotel you'll stay (if you come during Ramadan) of course non Muslims will served food. You just would sit in an extra area where Muslims won't not see you. On beaches, just get in the dressing room to drink or eat.

Ramadan was June 5 to July 5 so it's long gone.

Dubai is one of the world's safest cities, thousands of Americans (and many other nationalities as Dubai's population is literally 90% expatriates) and many, many single females.

Dear Lady, You will be in one of the safest countries in the world.
A safety index recently published says Dubai is the ninth most safest place on earth.
And contrary to popular American ideas, Dubai is like an Oasis amidst regional wars and tensions.
There is no fundamentalism in Dubai, and the local Emiratis are one of the most helpful people you will find in your travels.
Just be a little conservative in your attire, and refrain from drinking in public. You do have bars and dance clubs too, but whatever happens stays inside.

They have one of the best infrastructures and tourists are treated royal.

Yes, you will be safe in Dubai !
and there is great shopping and sightseeing !

Taking a walk at night is getting a bit spooky sometimes, when all places are empty out of the centre. Take a taxi then, the metro does not go anymore late at night, so check the timetables before you go !
