What are the best places for a family to live in Delaware? We're looking for a place with good schools, safety, cost of houses/living, friendly people, actvities and climate. Thanks.
we're looking for a decent, clean hotel near the delaware beach area for this coming weekend. we are a family of 4 who have been outpriced in the immediate beach area.any suggestions? seaford, milford, georgetown? we'd like to be within 30 minutes of the beaches.
We recently spent some time in Rehoboth Beach Delaware and ate at a seafood restaurant called "Jakes Seafood House". Their seafood bisque is too die for. Does anyone have their exact recipe?
With so much talk about VT meetings around here, I thought I'd announce a new one. I've not been to this event, but watching pumpkins fly through the air with the greatest of ease, and the hanging around in a cornfield in early winter, drinking beer, building fires, and wearing plaid is oddly compelling to me. How about you?
On November 3, come to Bridgeville, Delaware, to watch the Pumpkin Chunkin' contest. Bridgeville is sort of in the middle of nowhere, so about two hours—or less—from many of the Mid-Atlantic's somewhere spots: Baltimore, DC, and Philadelphia.
We'll meet at that fabulous Jimmy's Grille in Bridgeville, probably around noon. Better fried chicken, biscuits, and pies you'd be hard pressed to find, and then we'll carpool to the Pumpkin Chunkin' field.
Cost is7 per person, and2 per car for parking.
We can (and should) bring food and beverages, including beer, wine, whatever; folding chairs and blankets are helpful, too.
If anyone wants to travel in for this major fest, we'll have drinks and dinner in Baltimore the night before.
This link should explain all:
And, specifics will follow.
C'mon, it's time to release your inner hillbilly!
I'm hoping one of you locals can help me out here. I'm looking for a place to go camping that's not withing camp grounds, but legal or a campground that you can hike to find your own spot along the river. Every place I call or see onling provides a fire ring and a location that they choose for you. I really love to camp and don't want much help or people around. Is this possible?
I'm also looking for the best area for white water.
Thanks for your help!
Are there any apartments in Dover, De which has an indoor swimming pool and a fitness center inside the property complex? thanks
I am moving to wilmington next month and wanted to know names of some good apartments. I checked out the ratings of some of these apartments here:
And most of them have bad ratings/reviews. After reading some of the reviews, I cant even think of moving in there. Any recommendations from ppl living in wilmington. Anything below 1000$/month is good for me.
I like something close to the office. My office is located in downtown (CHase bank). Even something in the range of 10-15 mins drive is good enough.
Thanks for your advice
I want to stop near Bethany Beach or the surrounding area on my way up North next week, but I can't find cheap lodging. is there anywhere where it is legal to park overnight and camp, maybe on the beach?
I am trying to find the best/fastest way to get from bethany beach to university of delaware? and how far apart are they? thanks
I will be in Wilmington in September for a quick trip.
Can anyone tell me about places to shop in or around there?
Are there malls?
Are there any outlet stores I should check out?
Where would be a good place to eat?
Is there "Top Attractions" that people would recomend to see while in or around Wilmington?
Also, we will be taking a day trip to New York.
Can anyone tell me of the name of the bus line(?) that would get us from Wilmington to New York?
How long is the trip?
Thanks so much for any info!
Hi there--I'm planning a beach vacation in September with my family. We've never been to Bethany or Fenwick and we're wondering where we should try to find a house. My son will be two years old by then. My parents and brother will come as well. We'd love somewhere right by the beach where we could also walk to restaurants, shops, etc. My son is very active and loves to see new places and people. Any suggestions of areas, streets, rental agencies, etc would be appreciated. Fenwick sounds really nice but a rental agent told my mom she thought Bethany would be better because Fenwick is so small. What is Fenwick like and how do the two compare? Thanks for any insights!
Can anyone tell me what the legal drinking age in Delaware? Also, what is the law on underage drinking? Can parents purchase their teenager a beer? If so does it apply to restaurants or pubs or what? Also, are teenagers allowed into a pub with their parent?
Thanks for any info you can provide!
I'm in my early 60's but still working and having fun, keep myself up and would like to have a good life with what's left. Have done tons of homework on taxes and property values, so my question is: where would you live if you were me? I like to be busy; would love to meet an upscale, educated gent (preferably Caucasian); want to feel safe where I live; may go back to university for Masters; need train/plane to NYC; and love eating at a wide variety of ethnic and different places.
Is it worth paying 1.30% tax rate in Newcastle? Or should I stay around Kent county where it is .77%?
Any suggestions are so very appreciated.
By the way, Hockessin is showing up on alot of Sr. boards as a great place. Anyone know what a nice 2 BR home/condo/townhouse would be there?

Im considering moving to Delaware and wondered where I could find a good, small neighborhood and a house 3b/2b under200K with a nice yard.
I've heard lots of things about Wilmington, good and bad...I really could use some advice about other towns throughout DE.
Please be truthful and give as much detail as you can as I *need* the help! LOL

Anywhere along the Delaware Coast - looking for a small cottage to rent beginning Dec. 31st.
I am headed up to Ocean City, NJ this weekend and am taking the Cape May Ferry from Lewes, DE. I am scheduled to leave on the 6:15 ferry, which means I need to check in around 5:15. What is the fastest way for me to get there on a holiday weekend (Labor Day), leaving at rush hour? Is there a "secret route" or anything? Any suggestions on what time I should head out of DC? Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks so much.
Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me find the fastest way to get from the University of Delaware in Newark to Villanova, PA. I don't have access to a car so I am looking for an alternate form of transportation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I'm from NYC and very tired of living in the city. For some reason, Delaware is very appealing to me. My only problem is, I don't know where to move to in DE. After some basic research, I've come to like the northern part by PA, like New Castle and Newark, but haven't gone to physically look at the areas yet. Any advice on good neighborhoods or where to look? My husband and I are expecting our first child and we want a family neighborhood/suburb with room to play. Haven't a clue on the cost of houses, but just need some starting places to begin our search. Please help!
I just found out last week that I'm going to be stationed at Dover Air Force Base in February 2005. So now I've started the info gathering adventure on the area even though I'm still in New Orleans. I've searched around online and found a few apartment complexes of interest: Baytree Apartments Woodmill Apartments Village of Westover Apartments They all seem to have similar styling, and I think they're all owned by the same company. Does anyone have info on these, like if they're nice in person, in relatively good parts of town, etc? I think my fiancee and I are going to take a trip up to Dover in October, but we'd like to be armed with a lot of info beforehand so that we don't waste any time. And if any of you guys plan on being in New Orleans over between now & January, let me know and I'll buy you a drink. :-)
The kind you eat is what I have in mind. Is there a "season" for soft shell crab in the Chesapeake? I'll be passing through in mid April and would love to stop for a fabulous lunch of famous crab. Thanks Dn
I'm in Wilmington semi-regularly, and have to believe that there's more in the way of nightlife than Kahunaville and the Newark bars. With all those banks employing all those twenty- and thirty-somethings, there has to be stuff to do late into the night, at least on the weekends, right? What do the locals do for fun, when not escaping to Philly? Thanks in advance for any info.
