Car rental for Litchfield  (3 Answers)

Hi we are 2 fir well travelled seniors - on a budget. Tour prices seem a bit expensive for us so we have hired a well priced rental car Hyundai i20. Does this seem an OK car for our self drive to Litchfield. Presumably all of the roads including in the park are sealed. Thanks. Margaret

We will be in Darwin in July and my husband has always want to go barra fishing. Can anyone recommend an operator? I have seen Helifishing but that would be too pricey and we are going to Kakadu ourselves afterwards.
Thanks!

Tour Transport from Cruise Terminal  (2 Answers)

Wondering how far it is from cruise ship terminal to bus stops that can take me to Aviation Heritage Center or Botanical Gardens or even downtown Darwin. I think there is a Hop On bus (Tub Tours) but can't figure out from their website how close the stop is to the Cruise terminal. Can anyone help?
Thanks! Rosie

What to do and where to stay in Darwin in mid-July  (8 Answers)

Hello.
So my husband and I are planning to spend 3 nights in Kakadu Park (.5 to drive either way from Darwin, 2 full days in Park). And we know to visit the WWII museum(s). We have several other questions...
1) What else is there to do in Darwin? I had originally planned 3-4 nights just in Darwin, but cannot really tell other items to do. We like beach, history, hiking, etc.
2) Where is the best place to stay in Darwin? We will have a car for at least part of it (do we need it the entire time), but also like to be able to walk to sites/dining.
3) We are automatic-car drivers. Best rental agency?
4) Do we need to book hotels and/or activities well in advance, or is 1-4 days enough time?
Thanks!

Cahill's Crossing/Stone Country Festival  (6 Answers)

We'll be in the Darwin area in late Aug. We're hoping to go for a few days to Kakadu, then to the Stone Country Festival on August 25. We will be borrowing a friends car (not hiring) and they've said it's ok to use it off-road, but I believe it's 2WD. Will we be able to make it across Cahill's Crossing, if we chose the right time? I'd really love to go the the festival, but don't want to damage the car or drive all the way out there to discover we can't make it across. Any other advice for the area, Kakadu, Nitmulik, or the festival would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Enjoying Darwin a couple of days in July  (9 Answers)

Hi!

I'm gonna travel to Darwin in a few days and I've done some research on the tours and stuff you can do there. I really wanna experience the nature and see as much as possible. I have three-four days roughly, and I would like to focus primarily on the landbased tours, even though the ocean is great as well. What are the best tours I can take now? I've targeted these as good options so far:

1. Venture North Daytrips:
2. Litchfield Day Tours:
3. SeaDarwin:

What I want to experience is as much as possible of genuine nature, wilderness, wild animals and landscapes combined with a guide with a lot of factual knowledge, competence and passion for these things who wants to share. If travelling alone with the guide and not a group is the best option, that's ok.

I'm travelling alone, am fit, used to rough terrain, heat, humidity, wild animals and whatnot and like to get out there :)

I hope you can give me some tips and recommendations on what I should focus on.

Secondarily, tips on nice stuff to do in Darwin itself is appreciated - like where to grab some good food, good place to grab a beer during the evening, and so on. I also noticed the Botanical Garden as a probable nice place to visit.

Thanks to everybody who takes the time and effort to assist! :)

Chris

From U S to Darwin  (3 Answers)

My husband and I will be moving to Darwin @May 1 for a three year work project. I am interested in shopping information for locals, not tourists. I hope to pack light! Will the wet season be over? Are there a lot of bugs outside or can you enjoy nights outdoors? Is internet service available in residences? Cable/Satalite tv? What cell phone service is best for international calling? Is there anything that I should bring from U S that I cannot get there?

North West coast Cyclone season  (4 Answers)

Hi there,

In two weeks we're going to Perth. From there we start our trip by camper to Exmouth, Broome and Darwin for a month. We know it's wet season in February/March but the guy from the travel agency strongly advised us to not go there because of the Cyclone Season. Has someone got experience with that? Is it really that bad or dangerous? Thank you.

Cheers,
Bas

9 Days in Darwin with a group. Suggestions on how much time to spend.  (3 Answers)

Will be arriving in Darwin on Dec 6 at 6AM and leaving 14 Dec at 3PM with 4 adults n 4 teenagers (from 12 to 16yrs).

We have a car and planning to drive around various parts but do not want to change hotels daily. We like to base in a town and do a few day trips and then maybe move to another town and do the same. Beside Darwin, we thought of looking at Kakadu or even Katherine. If you have better suggestions, please shoot.

We like nature and animals. Please suggest which towns we can base in and how to divide the 9 days.

If you have to know of any good self Catering Accommodation, please advice.

Looking forward for good advice.

Travelling with young children to the parks?  (4 Answers)

Hi,

We are a family with a 2 year-old and a 6 months old baby, and we are thinking of going to Darwin for a few days in Sept, and visiting Litchfield park or Kakadu park.

Do you think this is possible for us? What would be best, by campervan or by car + hotel?
Is there a lot of walking to do, as we'll probably end up carrying our 2 kids...?

Thanks for your help!
