Da Nang

Da Nang to Hanoi cheapest route

Hi everyone. I am flying to Da Nang early next january and need to get to Hanoi from there. Checked Jetstar pacific, but all flights sold out. I guess because its near the Vietnamese new year. Please could anyone kindly assist in advising me the various ways to get to Hanoi as budget is my primary concern. I will be travelling with my wife and six year old daughter. Please could anyone also assist in telling me how I could rent a car/scooter and if I will be able to use it to travel up to Hanoi and later return it later. Also is this a viable option as I am used to UK driving. Much appreciated

That is quite a distance and if all the flights are booked because of the holidays, most lightly the roads will be congested also. A bus or hire a car and driver would be the best, but if it was me, I stay put during the holiday for a few days. you can go to any tour or travel agency and inquire for transportation,

You need a VN driver's license to drive here - not easily had, and roads are not especially safe. Take the train (Livitrans) - Best to book now for that period as demand will be extremely high for Jan. My friend at Vietnamtour Travel will help as much as possible - an excellent agent in Hanoi. Prices rise quite a bit as TET nears in Jan (Jan 23,2012) - no place to come to if you want cheap in Jan!

You could take a Open Tour bus like Sinh Cafe:
There are several similar companies mostly used by tourists, probably about 20 hours and about 25. Sinh Cafe is probaly not having a office in Da Nang (but they have one in Hoi An and Hue), but there buses stop in Da Nang.

You can check Vietnam Airlines, I see it's available seat from Da Nang to Ha Noi. You should book seat first because at this time is the period of New Year and it's fully booked no longer. I think you shouldn't rend car which you drive yourself, because you haven't understood about traffic rule in VietNam yet. My opinion, car service is better! If you have queries,I wouldn't mind helping you.

Thank you everyone. Your time, patience and assistance is greatly appreciated. I think I will take an open bus as this seems the cheapest option. Does anyone know how it compares to the train, i.e traveling time and comfort. Thanks again. p.s is it advisable to book in advance even for open bus?

Train is much more expensive ($ 55), sleeper was to small for me (1,82m), but comfortable if you are small. 2 days booking ahead for Open Bus should be enough.

Hi, I also want to flight from Da Nang to Hanoi on November. I already booked the flight using Jet Star on End of Sept, but unfortunately juts today Jet Star cancelled the trip due to "change in their commercial plan". So it is not because of the flight is sold out, they just don't fly that route anymore.

I really disappointed and although they offer a full refund, I still have to find another mean to go to Hanoi. Now I'm considering either taking a train or fly with vietnam airline. The cost of both are nearly the same this time (train 1.648.000 dong vs flight 1.738.000 dong - all for 2 people). The cheapest cost for vietnam airline (unfortunately again) is for the last flight (22.05 - 23.15) while for earlier flight is cost more expensive.

Which one I should choose? I dont considered the bus as I read in other forum, the bus is quite terrifying (small place, speeding bus, etc).

I fly out there and not waste hours on the road. it's a trip by bus or train...Air travel is quick and just a pop.
