tour to the sacred valley  (10 Answers)

Hallo my friends. We are thinking of hiring a car or a car with a driver to make the tour to the sacred valley. Do you have any recomandations on either the transportation or where to find a good driver? I read that it is much more expensive to rent a car than a car with a driver. We will end the tour at Ollantaytambo where we have to catch the train to Agua Callientes.
Thank you.

Arrival of Cruz Del Sur, and departure of train  (7 Answers)

Good day all travelers!

I'll be arriving in september by bus in Cusco (Cruz Del Sur). According to their time table I get there at 06:00AM. I have a couple of questions:
1. Are these busses generally arriving more or less on time?
2. I can't locate an address that Google maps can understand for this terminal. My ticket has "Av. Industrial Nro.121 Urb. Bancopata Cusco" marked. Can anyone point me to a google maps location that corresponds?
3. I'm planning to take a train to Machu Picchu from Cusco. Is the station of POROY or the station of OLLANTAYTAMBO the closest to the bus terminal, and how much time would it take me to go from the bus to the train?

Thanks a million & safe travels!

safe at night?  (2 Answers)

we'll be staying in Cusco for 2-3 days then go to MP; am looking at train sched fr Olla to AQ and back next day; sched I find convenient for us to take are: dep Olla at 18:00, arr AQ at 20:45.... dep next day fr AQ at 18:20, arr Olla 20:15. my question is , is it safe to arrive at those places in that time of the night? I guess I've to make an arrangement w/ a taxi to drive us to Olla and to p/u us at Olla to return to Cusco.

tranvia and tourist tickets  (2 Answers)

I've reading reviews on Cusco, often mentioned "make sure you being your tourist ticket" when visiting places like SV, Ollan, churches/cathedral, etc; a while back when I begin to consider going to MP, I read reviews and recommendation fr VT forum and remember to come upon tranvia and tickets to purchase in Cusco; now I can't find topic on tranvia and ticket to buy so I can learn more. We are going in August. Any lead please

Where to book the Salkantay trek?  (4 Answers)

Hi guys,

Because the Inca trail is pretty much full until August, I would like to do the Salkantay trek. Does anyone know a good place where I can book this? I prefer a safe qualified agency because I know many agencies aren't qualified for tours like this.

Thanks in advance!

Hi guys! I am planning to travel around in Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador for the next 4 months. I would like to start my journey in Cusco to learn some Spanish at Amauta. I’ve heard that the address has changed, possibly to Jose Carlos Mariátegui K-4 (Sta Mónica) Does anyone know about this? And supposedly there is agency in the same building?

Inti Raymi Festival - Cusco, Peru  (3 Answers)

How you I get ticket to the event?
To buy ticket from the organizer site, one have to register. After that they sent me a link. I followed the link and after selecting the seating section, it takes me back to the registration page. Emailed the organizer and no response.
Online forums suggested getting it from a local travel agency. Any reliable ones anyone can post a link?

Local trekking company in Cusco  (6 Answers)

Hi. My husband and I are going to Peru in January 2015 and of course, we'll visit Cusco and Machu Picchu. We've decided to do the 2 trekking days from km 104.

We dont want to pay double price only because we are out side of Peru and booking trough internet and trough operators is much more expensive.

Does any one know a good, professional and trust able local company that we can contact directly to book our trekking? Name? Telephone number? any information? please?

Many thanks !!

Monica and Mike

Altitude Issues  (17 Answers)

I have long yearned to travel to Peru and visit Cuzco and Machu Piichu. But I am concerned about the altitude and Soroche. Thus I have yet to go there. Can anyone help alleviate my fears? I have heard stories about people coming down with altitude sickness and having to be evacuated. This in fact is the basis for my fears.

Questions, questions....  (2 Answers)

1) Which gives a better exchange rate in Cusco, banks or money changers?
2) What are the areas is Cusco that tourists should stay clear of?
3) If we need to catch the 11 am train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, what time should we leave Cusco if we take a cab? How much is the current taxi fare between Cusco and Ollantaytambo, one-way? Or is there an alternative to a taxi, like maybe an express bus (same route)?
4) I understand that food cannot be brought inside Machu Picchu but what about water? Could someone verify that it is allowed provided that it's in refillable containers but not in plastic disposable bottles?
5) Finally, is it possible for Machu Picchu visitors to enter the Inca Trail in the reverse direction in order to view Winay Wayna? If yes, how much is the cost if any and is a guide still required for this?

Thanks for any responses!

fast early morning/midday/evening buses Cusco/puno  (1 Answer)

We have found some buses that do Cusco to Puno arriving at 2 pm earliest. Are there any that arrive earlier in the day? We don't really care what sort of bus so long as its cheap and fast. (Local bus...?)

And wed also like to find a bus from Puno to Cusco that leaves in the afternoon, so arriving around 9 or 10. Just as long as this one doesnt leave in the morning and doesn't drive during the sleepiest hours, we want it.

Why do the bus companies only have early morning or overnight service?

arriving in cusco  (4 Answers)

I am heading to Cusco this April 11-28th. I was told to head straight to Sacred Valley after arriving into Cusco to help avoid altitude sickness I arrive at approx. 10:30am on Saturday and need to return to Cusco sometime Sunday afternoon. Is it worth spending the travel time? I will be doing volunteer work during the work, but have weekends off. Must go to Machu Picchu, do I need to purchase entrance/ train tickets this far in advance. I'll have a couple of weekends free which is when I plan to go to Machu Picchu and probably the Sacred Valley. Do you think I need to book entrance and train tickets in advance or can I organize it when I get to Cusco? Ideally would prefer to wait till I get there in case I want to change things around. Thanks!

What is better - 2 or 4 days Inka Trail?  (6 Answers)

1. Has anyone done 2 and 4 days Inka Trail to compare what is better to do.
2. Also concerning tickets, is it true one should book 6 months tickets in advance for it? If so, where. Is it possible to book the tickets on spot?
3. What one has to have for the trekking - is a tent, food, tickets to ruins, water, guide... included in price?
Thanks sooooo much in advance!! :))

Trip planning  (14 Answers)

A group of us is planning a trip to Peru in July. We are 10 people. I'm concerned about ground transportation for this many people and thought the hotels that we go with could arrange our day trips? Or maybe I should check out local guides for hire before we arrive? Anyone have any thoughts? Our plan is Lima-Colca Canyon-Arequipa-Cusco-sacred valley-machu picchu-Puno-Lima.
Appreciate any suggestions.
