Climbing Croagh Patrick 15th August 2009

Hi, we are thinking of climbing the reek on Saturday 15th August & I've been told that 15th August is the date the Travelling Community make the annual pilgrimage to the top. Just wondering if this is true? Thanks.

Ivan find no fixed date for the travelling community (as opposed to the annual pilgrimage, which is the last Sunday in July).

You might like to email Croagh Patrick directly with your question..if it is a fixed annual event then they will know the date for this year.

Hi, that is the day for the annual climb in 2009.
Can be very interesting climbing with many more around. Great atmosphere.
If in a small group, it can be a difficult, long lonesome climb.
Much more difficult coming down, so be careful. Either way, it is a great experience. Be sure and take your camera. From the top, the view over Clew Bay is breathtaking. Overall, Westport is a wonderful town to visit. Lots of restaurant, pubs and excellent accommodation.
