I am going to Costa Rica in end of December towards January for 10 days and I want to know which is better Pacific or Caribbean side this time of the year? How are they different?
Also, can you give me top 3 beaches to explore? I will be driving so I am flexible with the locations etc.
We will be travelling to Costa Rica at the end of December and need some help with an itinerary.
We will be there for 9 full days - flying in and out of San Jose.
We have heard that there isn't much to do or see in San Jose so is it worth spending time there?
From the research we've done so far we would like to spend some time by the beach, some time doing activities such as zip lining, rafting etc, visiting the volcanoes, seeing wildlife etc.
What itinerary would you suggest? In terms of traveling around, would you suggest driving or taking buses?
Any help is appreciated!
I am a solo female traveller going to costa Rica at he end of October for two and a half weeks. I'll try to spend about 1 week along the caribbean coast from Tortuguero to Manzanillo, maybe crossing to Bocas de Toro (Panama) and stay there for 3-4 days (to get the PADI), Manuel Antonio on the Pacific side for a couple of days and if I have time enough in case I skip Panama, I might go to Corcovado. So... I'd like to do a rainforest or cloud forest on my way to Tortuguero starting from Alajuela or on my way back at the end of my trip. Not sure if I should head to Monteverde or Braulio Carrillo instead. I would love any advise from anyone who has been to both! Thanks.
Do they have any train travel in costa rica ?

Hello fellow VT members ,
I'm researching for my cousin who lives in British Columbia ,Canada where I live . She and 4 friends are looking for a place to go from February 17 to 27 for relaxation, exercise and healthy eats ( I'm sure wine is included ;)) .a place with a spa like atmosphere ,yoga , you get what I mean . I thought Costa Rica would be good or maybe Boca del Toro in Panama ,but perhaps that's to far to travel for such a short time . I would love to here any ideas or recommendations !!
Maybe Jamaica, Puerto Rico of maybe Kwai,. I prefer Europe so I have no idea .
Thanks in advance ,Kietaa

planning a trip with 6 adults(18-50) to Costa Rica next May, decided to go here instead of the long trip to Hawaii, trying to decide where to stay, here are the parameters:
We live in Tampa, so we are at the beach alot, but still want to be close to beaches, want to be on the Pacific side
Would love to snorkel right from shore( we are comparing this kind of snorkeling not to Maui, but more St. Thomas
Waterfall hiking, ziplining, is a definate must do
Rainforest feel, lush landscape, not brown and dry
No nightlife for us, we are usually too tired from going all day
Close though to grocery stores(15 -20 min)
Sorry if this is still too broad, we are planning to fly into Liberia also, thx in advance
I am looking for an inexpensive rental (2 persons) on or near water where I can spend one or two months next winter.
What is the best area for things to do/ touring rest of country and the best company for renting furnished accommodation?
We especially enjoy snorkelling.
Could anyone tell me the best way to get to Osa Peninsula, and what must see / do experiences there is there. Would I need to hire a car to get about to restaurants etc? Is it safe ?
And any recommended Eco lodges please .
Also staying in San Jose for a couple of nights if anyone could recommend places to stay and things to do etc?
We booked a vacation in Costa Rica during Christmas but now my husband is worried to go there due to the situation.
What do you recommend? Is it advisable to go there in these conditions during Christmas?
Good day. My small family is making the steps necessary to make costa rica our part time home in the not too far future. I have a son who is 13 years old, will be 14 on July 12. I would love to find a local summer camp that he can spend time at to start the integration, meet kids his age and learn about local culture. Is there a source you can recommend to find such an opportunity? He completes in 8th grade school year on May 19 here in Arizona, USA. Thank you so much in advance.
Basically this is my first solo trip anywhere but traveled all over with my family and ex (just recently broke up with my fiancé of 3 years and felt I needed to try something new and different and Costa Rica seems like a place I would love) I am seeking advice on where I should I spend my time as I am am adrenaline junkie and I have always wanted to zip line through the jungle and rainforests since I I was a kid and now I get to do it! I also want to spend some time on the Carribean coast and enjoy the beaches. I've done a lot of research and I understand travel from one place to another can be dangerous and time consuming so I hope those who have been can enlighten me on the best places someone who enjoys adventure would go? I just can't decide after doing a lot of research where to go after checking out the volcanoes and hot springs. I appreciate all feedback:) Also would it be a bad idea to bring apple products there as I heard robbery and theft is common in CR besides I can just use my GoPro to take photos. Haha I have so many questions but I figure this place is a good start! Gracias!
Hello - we fly into San Jose and are staying in a house two hours into the rain forest. There is a kitchen in the house, so we were hoping to stock up on food supplies in San Jose. We land at 12:30pm, and are renting a car, so I would imagine we would get out into San Jose around 2:00pm. Are any ferias open at that time where we can buy meats, fruits, etc...? If not, is there a supermarket that you would recommend we stop at?
HI! I will be in Costa Rica for 2 weeks in June and I would love to improve my Spanish. I was there 2 years ago at Perfect Sunset School in Playa Hermosa close to Santa Teresa and they were amazing but this time I want to be at the Caribeean and Im looking for something similar. Small groups, focus in what the students need, and I want real conection with local people like I had 2 years ago at Playa Hermosa. Also after my a course I want to go to Bocas del Toro and San Blas.
We want to do zipline and Whitewater rafting but we are not sure which place is better for both activities.
also, is canopy the same thing as zipline? I noticed companies offering canopy tour in the Fortuna.
How do we get to Tortuguero from Sarapiqui ?
Please let me know if it is by boat or road.
has anyone been to Costa Rica recently and can you tell me what the situation is with the zika virus? the news depict a worrying situation across Central America, but I'd like to know from people who are there now or have been recently.
I am going to visit the Guanacaste and Arenal areas at the end of July and heard that this is the "little summer" period of the green season.
could you tell me what sort of weather I should expect to find?
Hola a todos!
Voy a visitar Arenal y Brasilito al final de julio. Que tiempo voy a encontrar?
My girlfriend and I are staying in Sámara and planning to go to Montezuma next. We are trying to figure out if we, after Montezuma, should keep going down the pacific coast to Panama or if we should cross the country to Limon and follow the Caribbean coast to Panama. Which coast do you guys prefer?
My girlfriend and I are traveling in Costa Rica. Right now we're staying in Sámara until tuesday. But where should we go next? We wanted to follow the coast down to Mal País -> Montezuma -> Jacó, but we've heard that this should be a very difficult way.. Is it worth the struggle? We're traveling by public bus! Also we want to go south cause we're going to Panama next month.
If we end up going to Jacó, should we follow the coast down to Panama or cross the country and go to Limón and follow the other coast down.
In two weeks I'm going to Costa Rica for one month. After staying in Monteverde I'm going to Playa Grande, but I can't find any public bus from Monteverde to Playa Grande. What to do? Should I split the trip in two and find a place for the night?
When at Playa Grande I've planned to learn how to surf. Lonely Planet suggest to take surf lessons at Playa Tamarindo - which do you prefer?
