My mother and I will be staying San Ignacio and will have a 4WD rental car. Do you think we'd enjoy seeing Corazal on our own. We are both good researchers and might be able to listen in to a guide if we run into a group.
Or do you recommend booking a tour in San Ignacio?
Same question for the Blue Hole.
Same question for Tikal.
Thanks for your thoughts!
I think you mean Caracol, the ruin, right? I've done Caracol on my own and it's OK that way, but better with a tour guide. Sorry, but the idea of latching on to someone else's tour doesn't work for me. They've paid for their guide, you haven't, so I don't think that would be appreciated. And, it's not like Tikal here in Belize with lots of tour groups everywhere. You can't really just latch on to a group when there is only one or two or none. The main challenge for Caracol is again, the getting there. If it's been rainy, the road gets scary. If you can afford it, I think you will like it better if you book a tour(Mayawalk is good). Same definitely and more so with Tikal. You can't take your rental car into Guatemala anyway. Inland Blue Hole is a good on your own place to go. It's near Cave's Branch Lodge - great lodge to try.
You are a peach Sheila. I was wonering the same thing. Nothing to add, - but will tell you, that once I sent "latchers" into the wrong entrance in Giza, Egypt, that was off limits. They were quite happy to get to the front of the group, so eagerly went in, - while we went to the right entrance, - only to be escorted out by the guards shouting in Masri, words best not translated. Not proud of it but still.......d:o)
Not a good idea......sorry....d;o/
