Hi, I would like some informations about the safety of the Colombia-Ecuador border crossing. Is it better to travel daytime only and is there different bus company travelling that area.
Hi I am thinking of visiting Colombia soon ( first time visitor) I have no real solid info about Colombia just bits of chit chat, most of it negative . I would like to have a clear perspective in order to help with my decision to visit there. I am wondering about accomodation ( not hotel) if there are homestays , volunteer vacations or any similar safe clean simple and quiet form of accomodation . Which city is considered the best to visit first and safe locations within the cities. I am interested in activities such as theatre , historical sites , cultural things , language learning and natural things . I prefer staying where the airport is esaily accessible or where there is safe easy and reliable transport to places of interest .
Thank you very much .
Have any of you recently done this route by bus? How long did it take and how was the road? I tend to get carsick when the roads are too winding..
Hi, My friend is currently in Colombia for a few months but hasn't taken enough Jungle Formula mosquito repellent with her. As there is a very nasty flu being caught from mosquito bites in Colombia right now she is using up what she took with her very fast. Can anyone recommend the best repellent which she could buy from a pharmacy in Colombia please. She is in Barranquilla at the moment. Thank you so much for any suggestions.
Hello - For economical reasons only! I am looking at a cheap air ticket from the States that arrives at 1:15 am in Bogota. I would transfer to a bus to Cali, they leave every hour. These would be the less comfortable buses, but I do not remember the name of the company (perhaps each company has its own bus station). Is this an insane idea - aside from the incredible fatigue involved - for an older gringa traveling alone? Could one simply take a controlled taxi from the airport to the bus station, or is it more complicated and more problematic in terms of security than that? Thanks, Jean
Hi. I see different opinions online, and there might be a new road that is not taken into account in previous posts. There is a nice festival the last week in December in Santa Fe. How feasible would be a day trip by public transportation to see it? Are there night buses? Sometimes the best stuff happens at night. Does anyone know of a cheap decent hotel or hostel? Booking.com only has expensive places. And, to conclude, any idea of the most exuberant days? thanks, Jean
Hi - Soon I should be changing Cambodia for Colombia! hah! Looking forward despite fatigue! I would like to fly in after Christmas with the family in the States for the Feria in Cali. I am looking at airbnb homestays and rentals. I have a nice choice but I do not know the town. I see neighborhoods mentioned like Miraflores and San Antonio. What would be a good location for easy access to the feria? and in general? (for the latter, San Antonio for one seems good). I am an older woman traveling alone, a bit weary but still intrepid. However I do need good public transportation access. Thanks, Jean

I was born in Colombia to a Canadian father and a Colombian mother. We moved to Canada in 1977. I am thinking of going back to visit and have an aunt there that is adamant that I MUST also have a Colombian passport in order to exit Colombia.
I am reading two things:
a. Colombia requires ALL nationals to exit Colombia with a Colombian passport regardless of their current nationality.
b. The above is true but ONLY if you became a citizen of another country AFTER 1991.
So, technically I became a Canadian citizen because of my father. I have a Canadian registration of birth abroad and entered Canada in 1977. Why would I need to go and get a Colombian passport to visit Colombia for a few weeks? Could someone please clarify. I am confused. ps. yes, my Canadian passport states I was born in Cali.
What is the best way to get to the Barranquilla airport if I want to stay the night in Santa Marta? Would this be unreasonable or too complicated?
We are planning to travel Colombia in September this year and would like to visit Cano
Cristales among other places. Our concern is safety of the area. Is it actually safe to go there?
I am planning a trip to Colombia, and thinking of doing Cartagena from 11-16 November. I looked online and it seems that there is a festival/beauty contest on those dates. How big is this event, and is it something worth doing or avoiding? I could do Medellin on those dates and do Cartegena after that.
Any feedback is appreciated.
I am traveling to Ecuador in July, and would love to spend a couple of weeks in Bogota on my way in or out, since it's where I am flying into anyway. However, I do need a visa for Colombia - and since I live in Macedonia, and don't have a Colombian embassy and/or consulate here, it seems like the easiest way to go for it would be to go for the e-visa.
I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with going through the process? On the official website, it says that once the e-visa has been approved, one still has to get a stamp in their passport - either in the Visa and Immigration Office in Bogota, or in the nearest consulate. I have a couple of questions:
Thank you in advance for your replies. Any extra info on this would be more than welcome :-)
All the best,
Hi I will be staying in Categena a few days in September before moving on to Bahia Solano to do the whale watching, is it possible to get a bus , or do I have to fly to Medellin and go from there to Bahia Solano? Any help appreciated
Good day. Does anyone know where town of Divino Niño is? It is a small community about 1/2 an hour from Bogota. It doesn't seem to appear on any maps on the internet. Will be staying in Bogota for a few day's for travel to this community. I have been trying to find it's location to see where it is located.
Just an FYI.
There is also another city called Divino Niño that is located in the Huila region 12 kms outside of Pitalito, but that is not the town I am seeking the location and photo's of.
thanks for anyone who knows anything about this town / community outside of Bogota.
I am travelling to Colombia in September, spending 2 days in Bogota then plan to fly to Santa Marta, was hoping to relax on some nice beaches, do some salsa and go whale watching. I'll have a week to do this. Can anyone advise me the best place to do this, and is there any beaches that will have decent weather and be not too wet then? Was going to visit Tayrona but it seems the weather will not be that good. Any help appreciated :-)

I am going to Colombia for 125days this year.i will extend my tourist visa when I get there.will there be a problem if my airline ticket shows a return date past 90 days when I enter the country.thanks
I will be visiting Colombia over St. Joseph day. Is that the type of holiday where hotels will book up quickly? Will a lot of places be closed? Are there usually events to be watched (I'll be in Cartagena or Santa Marta)? We don't have the holiday in the US, so I have no idea what type of holiday it is.
Can anyone recomend a reasonably-priced hotel (ie US$50 or so) in central/old town Cartegena (I have trouble walking too far). We'll be there for probably 5 nights (in late Jan/early Feb) so anywhere which will offer discounts is particularly interesting.
Anyone has any suggestions on tour agencies to Ciudad perdida. All I've seen charge the same $600,000 COP for 4 days.
Also, in order to keep on budget, any suggestions to got to Palomino and Cabo de la vela withour a tour or a tour is a must.
Can anyone recommend a beach with calm water with a mid level or luxury hotel, not too developed, preferably white or golden sand? Looked at San Andres and Providentale(sorry about the spelling) but they seemed to be a hassle to get there.
I was told that the limit for one draw at an ATM is 300'000 of the local currency. Does anyone know any ATM in above towns that allows a higher draw in one go?
I'm heading to cartagena and of January for 2 weeks and looking for a nice hotel on the beach and close to the night life. I would prefer a place that won't have to many families as I'm looking to have fun and party without having to listen to a bunch of screaming kids. Anyone have some good suggestions?
Did someone get online ticket on avainca website? When you are asked to pay, you are asked credit card number, date of expiry, security code and number of istallaments: what are those? I have never been asked number of istallaments before.
Does anyone know how would be the best and safest way from Bogota to Villavicencio Colombia other than by airplane... taxi or bus? how long is the trip and how much? and does anyone have any idea of a timetable/ first bus /last bus? thanks

Is it possible to travel from Cali to San Agustin at the moment because of the blockades? Also, is it possible to reach the border with Ecuador? It seems as though there's no access to Pasto and Popayan from the North at the moment.
