Colombia itinerary

Hello: Going to Colombia from jan 1 to jan 11. Basically have 10 days....wanted some itineary reccomenadations. Im thinking mabye will spend 3 days to botata, fly to caratagena for 3 days, then fly to medahin for 3 days, and then fly back to bogota on the last day to fly home. How does this itinerary sound? Any reccomendations? Also can anyone reccomend wether it is better to reserve all hotels and air flight within colombia now....or when we get there. I would much prefer to do it all there so we can have more flexibility about how long we stay in each place.

First of all I would prepare the trip a little more thoroughly and learn about the cities mentioned. It is Bogota, Cartagena and Medellin.

For those 10 days I would stick to Bogota and Cartagena and skip Medellin.

It is high season for Colombians so especially in Cartagena I would reserve hotels as well as the flights. (Avianca and AeroRepublica and Aires are the most recommended).

For more info and websites, and the procedure when LEAVING Colombia you may want to have a look at my Colombia (transportation) pages.

I will be in Colombia those days as well.

I agree with Noel that it could be better to visit only two cities (all three cities are nice to visit though), otherwise you would be spending much time at airports.
From Bogota you can make a daytrip to the salt cathedral in Zipaquira.
From Cartagena you can make daytrips to Isla Rosario and to Vulcán de Lodo El Totumo.

Thanks...that sounds great. I think i will probably stick to only these 2 regions. One of my friends who has been to colombia a few times however says that the women of Medellin are beautiful....and are a site to see in of themselves. I was thinking of spending fri, sat sun in bogota, monday, tuesday, wed, and thurs in Cartagena, and then flying to Medellin on friday and saturday just to party with the ladies. I figure 3 days in bogota will not be enough to take a day trip anywhere....but 4 days in Cartagena may be enough to take at least one day trip. Any ways....thanks for all the help. I will go and read about each of the regions, including possible day trips....and make a descision. I agree...visiting all three will be pretty hectic....and I am not sure if it is worth it.

My friend has a colombian friend...and she has given us a completely different itinerary reccomendation. In fact...she wamts to be there for part of the trip and how us around. Here is her itinerary....let me know what you guys think. I think its a little too much myself:\

Friday: Arrive bogata 6am. See as much as bogata as possible
Saturday: Fly to cali
Sunday: Cali
Monday: Fly to Cartagena
Tues: Cartagena
Wed: Cartagena
Thurs: Cartagen
Friday: Fly to Medellin
Sat: Medellin
Sun: Fly Home

Is this way too much? Is it even possible? My friend wants to go to Cali so he can attend this Bull fighting thing they have from Jan 1 to Jan 6.

If we had to decide wether we wanted to go to Cali or Medellin..but not both....which one would you choose?

As you say: way too much.

It is a lot of flying in a few days! Why don't you stay in Bogota before going to Cartagena. Seems to be too much of a rush to visit Cali as well, but maybe that is where your friend can show you around.

So I asked my friend....she says there is this festival called Feria del cali....and its something you must see. However...we will be arriving in cali on jan 3....from my understanding this celebration ends after new years. I spoke to my colobian friend...and she says there is still some celbration after this....but she wants us to be there on jan 3...and since our plane arrives in bogota on jan 2 at 6 am....this will not leave much time in bogota. this celebration in cali worth it?

Is there anything to see on jan 3 or 4.
