La Guajira

I'd like to visit La Guajira peninsula but there is unfortunately not much info available about this little visited part of Colombia. I wonder if anybody lately visited this area and what was your experience. Would be also interested to hear about the safety as I've got various info about it.

Can I do the trip on my own? If not, would you recommend any local operators who does it? In this case, where the trip starts, how many days does it take, which places do you normally visit and what about the price?

I would be more than thankful for any info, preferably first-hand.

I noticed that you haven't got an answer on your postings for quite some time now.

In my opinion I wouldn't go to La Guajira, although, you are right about that, it must be something beautiful there.

Neither did I attend any of those festivals. Too many people to my liking.

Anyway, I travel to Colombia frequently, 2 x a year, just came back about a month ago and I will be there again from mid December until the end of January.
If I can be of any help I´m happy to do so.
Enjoy Colombia.
