I would go on Sunday, then there´s the great parade.
Saturday is the "Battle of flowers", Monday is the Orchestra festival and Tuesday is the "Burial of Joselito Carvajal".
The Parade is at the Via 40 ([original link]), for a few dollars you can buy a ticket for a shady place on a plastic-chair in the crowd, for a few dollars more you will get a ticket at a Terrace-place (northern part of Via 40, Start of the parade).
- It will be very loud, wet and "soapy" ;-)
- the roomprices will be astronomic high (or even booked up) in Barranquilla during the carnival. You could arrive with the morning-bus from Sta. Marta and go back in the evening (as an option). But it´s not easy to catch a taxi to the bus-station after the parade...
