Best area to stay in Clearwater

could anyone tell me what's the best area to stay in Clearwater, would like to be close to the marina/beach/shops/resturants, every thing really also see on most pictures that there is what looks like a wide busy main road that runs parallel to the beach does this cause a problem

Clearwater Beach isn't that big, you can walk everywhere, there's also a trolly that runs up and down the main street. There's traffic but it's not a problem. There's a Hilton right on the beach when you come across the causeway on the north end and Shephards Beach Resort on the south end, lots of hotels/motels along the main street as well as on the street one block over from the beach. If you're comfortable traveling w/out having a room booked I'm sure you can find a more affordable one when you get there that you won't find on the internet (unless you're planning on going during spring break, you may not be able to find a room).

If you want lots of activity, go for the southern half of the beach. The northern half is quieter (and purely residential if you go north enough), but unfortunately many of the older mom-and-pop motels up that way are going condo. :(

Actually, it's more accurate to say that the motels are being torn down and replaced with condos. (also :(
