You won't be alone for long, some local girls will find you, lol. I guess the answer to some degree depends on your age. There are some nice, casual bars/ restaurants in Botanica. Beware, prices vary considerably. Always haggle and agree taxi prices and try to have correct money, you may not get change. Taxis within the boundary should be 20-40 lei. Airport to town about 100 lei. The 'tourist' bars on the Internet will have plenty of girls but it could be an expensive night.

There are a some decent bars in Chisinau but it's not necessarily obviously full of them like other Eastern European cities.

I have no idea what Kevin is talking about with the girls and widely varying prices. Most places are obviously catering to that type of crowd, if you happen to wander into one (I didn't when I was there, and never felt like that was close to happening).

Right off the square with the Parcul Catedralei there are a couple decent places. Off that square between Strada Mitropolit Varlaam and the main drag to the SE there was this basement bar I found which I don't know the name of. It had the typical loud eastern european music but was cheap enough and seemed to have more locals than visiting businessmen. There is also Robin Pub. A lot more quiet, decent food. Also has wifi.

There is a terrible Irish pub SE of that area, avoid it. It's expensive.

Generally it is a cheap city. Don't worry about "touristy" places. It's the least visited country in Europe, there aren't that many tourists.

Thanks for the advice. Sad to say, i have become a country 'ticker' and Moldova is one of my last European ticks. But I like these places where nobody ever goes, often the reality is much nicer and completly different to the reputation.  I guess that the Moldovan countryside is completely different and unspoilt. If the weather is ok, I was thinking of making a day trip into the countryside form chisinau by train. Will also take a bus to tirasapol. Would also welcome any suggestions. Thanks Peter

I visited Moldova 14 times over a 3 year period, also lived in Chisinau for 3 months. I found some local bars where the beer was really cheap so when I visited a 'main stream' bar the prices were considerably more. In the local bar you could drink 8 cans of beer for under £5. Girls, well, again maybe because I was there for a while I was "invited" to go to another bar on several occasions. Not trying to put anyone off, I loved Moldova, hence going back so many times.

The countryside is quite nice. If you want something a bit closer to Chisinau there are the Cricova wine caves. It is fairly expensive relative to other things to do, but the tour is an interesting enough experience. Not something you would normally do elsewhere. Not necessarily a must-see but something to do.

A bus to Tiraspol is really easy. Just walk to the bus station and hop into a Mashrutka with a Tiraspol sign in the window. It isn't expensive and only takes 1-2hrs roughly. You can easily make a day trip of it.

Thanks again. In the countryside was thinking of ORHEI VECHI MONASTERY AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL COMPLEX, where i could have local bread food etc. Have you been? Not sure of transport to get there though. For the girls, if true, can survive and well it would boost my ego if I pretend its not their job. lol, Cheers Peter.

I have been. It isn't that far outside the city. It was really pretty but the Monanstery itself was closed when I went so it was a slight let-down, but that doesn't mean it will be the case when you go. Plus the weather is a lot better this time of year. I went in December.
